I found these pictures and a video of a gas shock engine lid opener for a Speedster that a guy in Finland fabricated. Very clever and works great!

Holy Crap!!!

I'm actually busy with this as we speak. I took a boot lid gas shock from a honda civic (very worn) and have modded it to work with both the hood and engine lid on my speedster.

I like the way that he's done the joint. Very good idea. I may have to change my method.

I wonder why he kept the hinge version of the old bootlid though, I was just going to mount it to the section furthest away from the slot.

in my opinion, it's all about the pressure rating of the gas shock.

I tried this with short, long, used and new gas shocks and i couldn't get one weak enough to not stress the fiberglass when closing the rear hood (because of the huge air intake openings - there is little structural integrity on the rear hood)

I've been eyeballing the bus (bay window) rear hood prop for a while.
