Anyone have any suggestion on getting my fuel gauge to ready correctly. I have a 1969 gas tank in the car and the sending unit only fits one way which seems to make the sending unit sit incorrectly and I cannot get a true reading on my gauge. Anyone had tjis problem or have suggestions?
Jim's right, bend it around opposite to what you start with as the VDO gauge reads opposite to what the sender is telling it. Then, after you've got it bent, place it in the tank with a known quantity of gas in there and trial-and-error bend it a little at a time to "tune it in".

"Empty" is usually more important than "Full", so put a gallon or two in there and adjust it for "empty" and let it go at that (that will insure a "reserve" for you of 20 - 30 miles when you hit empty).

Gordon, about 5 am... 6 your time. I just sent you a note and have a thread set up under events for Chris to post on. Thanks again... my kids (NY, DAL, OKC, FL) and many friends will be checking it out. I'll tell Chris thanks on my first call-in.... somewhere out there where you can smell the Purple Sage as you cruise the highway.

I just had this problem. A new sender in my IM needed to be bent almost reverse of what came from the VDO factory. To test...Henry used 1 1/2 gallons of fuel to mark the reserve mark on the gauge (I am using a standard fuel tank). I am using the chrome VDO's. Then minor adjustments can be made.

I screwed it up the first time and came up with some awful bend that either registered "full" or "empty" nothing reliable or in-between. I dropped it off and picked it up the next day. Not accurate but it at least gives me a "window" of panic.
