8 gals. I wish I had one a little bigger (gas tank) Mine reads empty with about 2 gals. I think the best way is to check gas mileage and then mileage. I was talking to Kirk awhile back and he was thinking of putting in fuel cells but he had to make a fairly large investment to get the price right. Anyone showing any interest? If we can get a large group together he may go for it. 12 to 16 gals would that be nice and I'd feel a lot safer. Even though my wife only has a one gallon tank so we have to stop anyway.

I recently bought a 16 gallon tank from CIP1 for $70 (less a 10% sale coupon) plus $20 crating. There are two ways to install it - one is to shorten the filler neck maybe 2" and the other is to cut the fiberglass hood liner to clear the cap. Jim Ward did up an article on installing one in his Speedster. Its in the Forum's Knowledge center. Think I plan to shorted the neck. I notice I can no longer use the space saver spare in the trunk with the larger tank. I may just go with a T-Bird Continental rear bumper modification to hold the spare -- or mount it on the hood Land Rover style!
The Real Source (Now Mid America) has the 16 gallon tank in their new catalog. What I'd like to know is what sending unit they used back then? Nobody lists a special sender for the 16 gallon tank. I've rebent my stock '71 unit to closer replicate the extra depth. It seems pretty accurate now(aafter two rebends), but it bounces all over the place with ever corner. Disconcerting on a quarter tank.
