Hi, I am building an A coupe, and looking at gauge install at the moment. The dash is moulded from the original with 100mm cutouts for the 3 gauges, but my repros are 105mm.  I am considering mounting the gauges behind the 100mm holes rather than cutting them to a larger size, thereby retaining the gelcoat bevelled edge. Has anyone done similar, or do you all mount gauges from the front rather than pushing in from the back? Could find anything on this topic by searching, but if there is a thread already please point me in the right direction

Thanks for helping this newbie.

As best you can, draw a circle around the holes to 105 and then use a small rasp in a dremel tool or drill to slowly bring the holes out to the right size.  Try fitting the gauge every so often until it slides in.

The gauge should have a trim bezel larger than the gauge can which will both hold the gauge in place as well as provide a decorative finish to it once installed (It also covers whatever edge there is on the hole).

Most of us who've built our cars have gone through this with these gauges.  Take your time reaming the holes, don't remove too much material and it'll be fine.
