Hello, I strongly feel my generator is not working or working properly. I desire to check my generator to see if it is working. Please see the following link to instructions on gererator testing,

If this is a good and correct test then I shall try it however, my question is ...I do not have markings for DF and D+ so how do I distingush which terminal is DF and D+ so I can do the test?

Did you check the voltage regulator on the right fender for these markings?

Here is the thing, I took the car to my local mechanic to have the cluch replaced and the transmission mounts replaced and they took the motor out of the car. To me this means that they had to remove the wires from the generator. IF this is true then how can we trust they put them back on the correct generator posts? So that is why I was wondering if there was anyway to distinguish on the generator?
If there is no way of determining off the generator itself then please help me read the regulator pictures below and determine which is DF and D+. Does DF go the the top (in my picture) and D+ on the bottom? or reverse?
DF is the field winding and is normaly the smaller of the two studs.... D+ is the generator's out put from the armature, and should be the larger stud.... 
You have a dress up cover on your generator Get someone here to post a pic of one without the cover for you.. Oh Thanks Leon thatil werk. Next if you pull the belt and take a car battery and a set of jumper cables If you ground the black lead to the case the red when tapped to the + on the generator should make it run like a motor Not fast but a good generator will run. Im willing to bet you have a bad regulator if they did hook it up wrong Get a BOSCH if you can find it at Rocket Auto Parts online a good suppier of quality parts and remeber to polerize it .. It should come with instructions

WeLcome i have 2 request.. First some pics of your car .. Second I want a pair of old halogen headlamp bulb glass lens from a pair of old one that have blown some were epoxied to the cone part and would seperate when they failed .
I just want the clear fluted part If any of you come a cross some i will then tell you why After i have my second pair made. i just put some on the beetle But still halogen incerts.. Im certain the LED Hi/Lo incerts will become avalable soon..

Sorry for the High jacked string...Gordon I had a pair of clear lexon plastic head lamps on my beetle , they keep clouding over so i found 2 old h-1 bulbs with the glued on glass lenses and swaped out the plastic len with glass . It made it so much briter at nite. I want some for my D
