What gives is that Henry will be fitting the small Espar gas heater on my car; location is between the gas tank and bulkhead near the windshield wiper motor. He said he will have to do some fibreglass modification to make it fit. Espar diesel heaters are used in fibreglass truck cabs and boats. Maybe you misunderstood him, or vice versa?.

You do have to be careful to isolate the exhaust (from the heat exchanger) and any other hot parts from direct contact with fibreglass or other inflammable surfaces. Espar furnishes brackets and mounting plates for proper installation.

If you bought a used IM it's possible that there may not have been any good locations on that particular car to mount an Espar.

George, is the Espar one of the older types or a newer model? I sold the remaining old VW gas heaters I had and have been browsing Ebay Germany looking for a reasonably priced Webasto Air Top heater. (Air Top has forced air while the Thermo Top heats coolant) The new models seem to be safer that the old VW units and much smaller (Max about 6x9x4). Is your Espar unit anything like that?

Brian
It's a new B1LC Espar (B1LC is gasoline, D1LC is Diesel), but they haven't changed much over the years. IT is 14.17" long with the end cap (hose for hot air output fits on the end cap), 5.22' high to base of mounting plate (fresh air intake and hot exhaust pipes protrude past this mounting plate about 3/4"), and 4.90" wide (but you have to allow clearance at the width for changing the glow plug when it becomes necessary).
