OK you New England guys and gals, this here's a PRIMO event to go to, and the site of the Boston Museum of Transportation at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline is a great location, too (walk up behind the carriage house to the top of the hill for a panoramic view of greater Boston. Better yet, eat your lunch up there in the Greecian Pergola!)

GERMAN CAR DAY AT LARZ ANDERSON PARK in Boss-Town!!

This is a "Lawn Event", which means get there early (like before 10am) to get a good spot on the lawn of the Museum's Carriage house.

Admission is only $10 adults, $5 seniors, students, children 6-12. Car Registration is $20 (gets in a carload of people). To register your car please email frontdesk@larzanderson.org or call 617-522-6547 to register today. They will want to know your name, Car year, model and color of car. That's it.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND registering ahead of time.

They have decent food on site, so you can plan on being there for lunch and then bug out after lunch to any Father's Day bashes you need to get to, or, better yet, BRING YOUR DAD ALONG!!

See you there!!

gn

P.S.: This show usually has quite a large contingent from the TYP 356 New England club show up - usually 20-30 cars, all pre-1965, all original and all beautiful. They, alone, are worth the admission!!

Gordon, I pre-registered for this event, but not sure if they send me something or if it's a "show-up and you're on their pre-register list"? I'll look you up if you're going or stop by as you wander.
short of a rainy day, the wife & I will be there....
Silver VS with Maine plates...pics on registry. Thxs for the tip on this show as I've not been there before. Do they mingle plastic and steel 356's?

Hey! Now that you ask....Porschefest is a no-show for this year.

How bout dat?!

The next best thing this year would be the micro/mini show, today (June 11) or maybe the Tuto Italianno day on August 2'nd.

The rest is nice, but pretty tame (unless you've got one of the other cars, like Transporters, Mercedes, motorcycles, Miatas, MG/Rover, etc.)

Check out the schedule at www.mot.org and find "Lawn Events"

I've got an invitation tho the Bonham's auction on 9/26, so I may fly up for that but we'll see.......

Here you go:

Decisions, Decisions....... Boston (and traffic) Or Litchfield and nice country roads (If I avoid Haht-fud and take my time getting there)

Now I'm gonna hafta make a choice!!

Haven't heard of other Speedies going there, but Lenny C. might make the trek from Bristol - maybe Danny P. too, but it's Father's day and my Dad's not getting any younger.........

gn
Really wish we could go... there is a Car Show in Newport (Middletown/Portsmouth) RI that is a tradition for Marc & his brothers. They always went with their Dad every year (Father's Day!), and this year, we are taking Speedy! It's got a mix of EVERYTHING from soup to nuts and is always fun.
Looks like BOS will be fun, too! If it was only a different weekend!
Oh, GREAT!

Even MORE decisions!

Kathy and I used to go to the show at the Portsmouth Abby every year (it was kind-of in the neighborhood when we lived in Tiverton). That's a great show.

OK, I'll do a pow-wow with the family and see if they are gonna do a bash for my Dad (he's 90, after all) and when, during the day, and then I'll decide where I'll be going, if anywhere. Boston is closest but the least fun (all you do is sit there). Portsmouth is next closest, and Flo's Clam Shack is right around the corner in Island Park (yum!) I could even lead a tour down to Sakonnet Point, right past our old house on Seapowet Ave.!!

Litchfield is, admittedly, a stretch and an all day thing and I wouldn't want to miss a Dad's Day bash for my Dad, so Portsmouth is looking pretty good (I could be back home mid-afternoon).

Sue and Marc: Get there as early as you can. After 10-10:30 it's pretty much full. BTW: It is a TERRIFIC location; grassy lawn sloping down to the water of Narragansett Bay. If I don't get there, do a side trip over to Bristol or email me for some neat side excursions before you head back up RT 24 to NH. Flo's Clam Shack is a must-do for a shore dinner, or you can do Evilyn's on RT77 in Tiverton. If those aren't classy enough, then Sakonnet Fish in Island Park is a great spot, or the Stone Bridge Restaurant (our favorite) on RT 77 in Tiverton Village, next to the beach (down the street from Standish Marine).

BTW: Portsmouth Abby is about 30 minutes North from Newport on 114, so you won't have to put up with the "Tourist Traffic". An even cooler show is later in the season when they have the car show at Ft. Adams Park, right on Newport Harbor. Looks like Oct. 4'th according to the Crusin' Bruce web site.

Of course, another problem compounding this is that I have Pearl scattered around the garage trying to adjust door gaps and re-adjust the rear ride height. Should have it done this weekend, but you never know........

Marc & I are planning on starting out for RI around 5AM. Hope for good weather! Marc's brother is joining us with a 944 (he's got it for sale if anyone's interested!) Marc grew up in this area and his brothers and Mom are still there. There is a winery that we'll be going to after the show. I'll have to check with Marc on the name but it's on the coast, somewhere!
We'll look forward to maybe seeing some familiar faces ~ and a few more Speedsters!

Whatever everyone does: Happy Father's Day!!!
YOUR STARTING AT 5AM?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

It only takes 2 hours to get there!!

The Newport Winery is just a few minutes away from the show. You can also go over to the East Bay side (a much nicer ride) and find the Sakonnet Winery on RT 77 in Little Compton. On the way back out, you can stop at Gray's Ice Cream for dessert!

RT 77 continues on down to Sakonnet Point on the Atlantic - worth the ride. RT 77 is just off of RT 24 from Boston to Newport.

gn
Yes, Gordon... that's what I said: "5AM!!! WHY???"
But we figure we'll miss most of the trucks that way and we'll be meeting my brother-in-law for breakfast in Bristol at 7 before heading over to the show.
I think the winery that we're going to is the one in Little Compton.
And Ice Cream for dessert!!! Love it! It'll be a long day but a lot of fun ~ if the weather co-operates!

As of yesterday (the 13th!) we've had the Speedster for a year, and since we didn't take her to Carlisle, this'll be the first "showing". Wouldn't you know, I'm working back to back trips (AGAIN!)so I won't get back till Sat. night. Marc has promised a tune-up & another coat of wax. I haven't learned anthing MX so far, but I really wanted to be the one to top off the shine before the show. Oh well ~ we'll pack some Griots into the suitcase!

It'd be great to see you (Kathy & your Dad, too?) but have fun at whatever show you decide! Having your Dad around at 90!!! Wow! That's the greatest ~ wish him a Happy Father's Day from this "new" New Englander, for me!.... Susie
Marc & I didn't get in till after midnight, and by the time we got home & unpacked it was 2AM. Needless to say, we woke up to rain and both nixed the idea of driving the Speedster to the Portsmouth Abbey show. Marc's brother is there (sold his 944!) and said the rain wasn't too bad but was expected to get worse.
I was really looking forward to this one. Oh well...

A Happy Father's Day to all the Dads on here!
Gordon,

You made the right choice. My buddy and I went up in his 2006 911 4S. It was a wet day. Rained on and off but there were a lot of cars there. Only three 356s but plenty of other 911s, 912s, one 914, a 928, a couple of Boxsters and a couple of Cayennes. Lots of Benzs, Audis, a couple of Opels and an old (1935) Auto Union. Even with the rain it was a lot of fun. That's a dynamite museum too.

John Eastman, North Kingstown, RI
It IS quite a place. Even more impressive if you take the little road up the hill behind the carriage house and stop at the pavilion on the top of the hill - the view overlooking Boston is breath-taking.

I heard a few days before that the TYP356 club might be staying home and had decided long before that the show in Portsmouth, RI at the Abby was probably a much better venue - better drive, broader spectrum of cars, slightly better food at the show and a lot more open scenery.

The next big event for the TYP356NE folks is the BSAAC Endicott Car Show in Dedham, MA. on July 12'th (good one for Suziestew and Marc)

LOTS of other events coming up in New England. I'm debating doing the Hemmings News Cruise Night in Bennington, VT, on July 9-10, and let's not forget the American Lemans North East Grand Prix at Lime Rock, CT. on the weekend of July 17.

That takes care of the Western end, now let's see what I can get going in the Eastern part of the region.......

STILL gotta get the car back together, but it's getting closer.
