GEX International Engine Builder?

Hello to all,

I am a newbie to this site. I have been thinking for quite some time to build a Spyder kit and I probably will, as soon as I have my own workshop. I have been reading a lot on this website. I have a VW engine builder not very far from where I live. It's called GEX International (http://www.gex.com). I did not see this company mentioned under the "Shops" category. Just wondering if some of you have your cars powered by an engine coming from GEX and what do you think about it? I hear a lot about CB Performance and Aircooled Technology which seem to be "the standards" but GEX has some turnkeys (especially a 2275cc) which seem interesting for a Spyder. Any feedback on GEX is welcome.

Thank you Jim for the pointer. This link definitely helped me to avoid making a big mistake obviously. I guess an absolute rule for any newbie in the world of Spyders and Flat Four's is to read as much as possible on forums and get educated. I'm glad I'm doing so at this time.

You'll find good engine builders few and far between in the Midwest. If you are looking for an engine builder (Type I VW) that is relatively close to Little Rock, try Archway Import Car Parts. They can also build a transaxle. They have a retail parts shop in South St. Louis County and specialize in sand rails and dune buggies. Jim, the owner, is pretty savvy about these engines -- he's specialized in air cooled VWs since the late 60s -- and can build one to your specifications at a decent price. He has a Speedster replica himself.
I have a 1914cc Archway-built engione in my Speedster replica and am a satisfied customer. I found them when building my Spyder and couldn't have done it without their help. I'm not affiliated with them -- just a satisfied customer. Their telephone number is 314 638 7700.
