ghia pan versus bug pan

what is the difference....just the pan width??

Yup floor pan width and std front disk brakes on ball joint years (also depending on year it may have 3.88 trans vs 4.12).

I'm asking because my car is based upon a vw brasilia which was based upon a Ghia pan. I'd like to change out my seats as I mentioned in some prior posts to more authentic looking low backs and I'm trying to determine what could work as my seats use the original seat rails. Paul

i've wondered if the ghia pan might be a better starting point than a bug. i bet it would fit the 356 body better.

I'm not sure that would be the case. The replica bodies and their subframes are designed to fit the Beetle pan.

Where did you get your info on Ghia pans being wider (where and by how much)??

Way back when I replaced a rusted out 1959 sedan pan with what I was told was a '64 Ghia pan and it fit. I don't remember having to mess with it much to get them together...

The Ghia floor pan is almost 7" wider and has a more pronounced arc at the foot well. TheBeetle pan will not work; however, the Ghia and Beetle share the tunnel, or backbone. It is possible to cut the pan halves off of a Beetle chassis and weld in Ghia pan halves followed by
mounting the Ghia body. Also note that the Thing and the Karmann Ghia share the same floorpan.

OK, that makes sense......I swapped out the rusted floor pans with sedan ones before I put the sedan body back on.....

I thought from the above posts that there was a wheelbase difference.....guess not.

If you check this link you'll see that the KG and Thing all had the 3.88 geared tranmissions too!

I'm gonna have to measure from the tunnel to the inner rockers on my car to see what kinda seat will fit. I still have the vw seat tracks on my car that my really 80's recarro's are mounted to. Everyone has said that you can't fit procar lowbacks in a pan based car...but I have to see if my wider pan can accomodate them.
