Here are the shots I took at the event yesterday. I had a good time -- and it was great to finally face-to-face with everyone.
It was really neat for me to see all the different variations on the theme and the little detail changes from one car to the next. My hat's off to you guys for putting all that together and getting such a great location. I really appreciate the prime parking spot, too. I thought my little Frankenbeastie would be stuck on the end by the charcoal Deusenberg-looking car, but that really made me feel good!
The hoopty developed a little problem (tech section) but is now back home safely in Maryland. Wish I could have stayed for dinner.
Next year, count me in for the whole nine yards!

Hey Cory!

Thanks for sharing your pictures from Carlisle. It looks like a nice turn-out and good weather! Hope you had a good time and picked up a few helpful tips on project building.

Glad to hear you (and Hoopty) made it home safely - what better way to have a shake-down cruise than on a trailer. That way, if anything breaks, you're already on a trailer.

Now BACK TO WORK on Hoopty you torsion-tube breaking, trailer-hauling, Spyder-lusting, fire-hosing...
Thanks, Jim. We need to figure out a geographic mid-point to drive to when this thing's done. I'll be taking a couple days off from the projekt, though, since I owe the girl some time out on the town. She hasn't seen much of me since we fixed the sights on the Carlisle show.

For general use: I forgot to mention that I shot the pictures on the medium setting of my camera, so if anyone wants one of these in a higher resolution -- maybe an image of a specific car? -- let me know and I'll e-mail them this week.
I'll be away from the computer for all of Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Interested folks will have images by Friday afternoon for sure. I'm not going to erase anything from the card for a while.

Cory, looks like your trip was a success and Project Hopty well received! Unfortunately, I had to grandstand it from the internet for the second year. The cost of the trip was just not in the budget at the moment.

Liked the shots, especially the before and after. The Speedy - Hopty - 550 comparison reminded me of the Evolutionary chart with the FOUND missing link. Nice morph of the two Porsche legends.

Too bad about the technical difficulty. Happened when I had the Speedy towed home, cost me a broken brake line. I'd like to weld a couple of specialy placed tow hooks or whatever you call them.

What's your deadline for completion? if there is such a thing with these cars....
Another one is in the books! I don't know how one could do more in 96 hours. The Earlybird and the G. Brown Cruises were a load of fun and a big success. The following dinners were great. Sat. nite dinner was great also as were the afterhour festivities.
The Beck Build went great and I bet Lane Anderson still has that "perpetual grin" cemented on his face yet.
Most of all I got to see a lot of great people again and meet even more new friends. Joe Soltis and Dan Pip to name a few....great hanging with you guys. It was also special to have Speedster Lovers fly in for the fun. Dusty and Sharon Johnson from CO. and JJ Rodrigues(sp) all the way from San Juan to name a few as well as Lane coming in for the new arrival.
I was pretty busy and the camera got stuck in the bag but there are many pics to come from the other shutterbugs.
I had a wonderful time!
Thanx for all the fun!

Hey Hoss!

What! No pictures of you roaming the showgrounds in your infamous 10-gallon chapeau!

Well at least it looks and sounds like you all had a memorable time at another fine SOC event - another good reason to be involved with this site. Although we weren't able to be there, we were still able to enjoy the event vicariously through your pictures. Thanks for sharing your pics!

Also in the interest of full disclosure, we didn't have to trim anything to fit the carbs - we had to trim a little on the firewall to fit the top of the tins as we slid the motor onto the transmission. It wasn't anything major - basically just taking off about 1/4 - 1/2" of the firewall glass.

In addition, we had to bend one tin on the driver's side of the front of the motor to clear one of the supports going to the frame of the chassis. Nothing really major at all, and nothing a minute with a pry bar couldn't fix. The tube frame chassis on the Beck kit is very impressive!
Anybody know who owns the Spyder that was parked right next to the Hoopty? I think he said he was a JPS guy, but my memory's terrible. I need to ask him some questions specific to his cooling system.

Also, who knows who the guy is who bought the red "56" car a short while ago and brought it to the show? He wrote his name down, Donald something, and I can't find the envelope he wrote it on. I need to call him, and I've lost his details! (The car is a 1994 flared CMC with racing decals all over it.)
Cory:

Dan Piperato owns the 550 parked next to you. He also won "Farthest Distance Driven - Spyder" at the dinner. He can be found at spyderclub.com or at: spyderman1 at frontiernet.net

I don't know who had the red Speedster with the 56 stickers on it - maybe someone else can help? The only "Donald" I had registered was Don Rubin from Maryland: email at NAVYDOC210 at yahoo.com
