have finished the interior (well almost).

Took almost 3 cans of 3M 90 adhesive. I think the bloke at the hardware store thinks I'm inhaling this stuff!

The VS carpet seems to fit pretty well in the CMC body. Just the vertical pieces at the front and rear of the door didn't fit exactly, but not too badly.

Alan,

Would you know if VS still sells the brake and shifter boot separately? I remember seeing them listed on an old spec sheet . . .

Jim, those carpets look so warm and inviting and WONDERFUL ! ! They're the Oatmeal set from VS, right? Was there a very long wait between ordering and delivery?

Are any of them removable for cleaning or are you just planning on providing surgical booties for driver and passenger . . . ?

LOOK JUST SENSATIONAL! I'm getting some, decision made !

TC
Finished!

The carpet all came in the same kit, even the underdash / fuel tank cover piece. The piece around the steering column is actually part of the extra fuel tank cover I somehow got with the trunk carpet kit just cut to wrap around the tube.

The carpet came about a week after it was ordered, it is the oatmeal colour. They only seem to have the one colour of edging as well.

Took me over FOUR hours to get the pedal assembly back in place with the clutch cable, accelerator cable, brake pushrod, etc., etc. I almost threw all my toys out of the pram at one point!

The floor mats are all removable. I left about four inches overlap all around each 'well' and stuck velcro tabs to the underside of the mats.

What you can't see is the false floorboards I made that flatten out the floors under the seats. These extend to about level with the front of the handbrake. I put jute underlay under the carpet in the front halves to provide some cushioning underfoot.

I bought the boots for the shifter and handbrake from VS as well. I sent them a sample of the vinyl I am using and they had them made up for the same price as the off-the-shelf ones.

I bought the shifter, with double curve, off some bloke on the Samba. Looks much better than the straight one I had before.

Next to finish off the wiring.

I can't wait until the 22nd as that is the first VW show of the season here in MI. In Ypsilanti - apparently Herbie is going to be there!

Jim.

Jim,
It looks as if you have removed the right heater control. I know in a VW only the left is needed but both are needed in your pan. I had to rework the tubes inside the tunnel due to whoever cut the pan did not re-connect them. I set it up for his-hers heat. Thought you might want to know before you went further.

Ben
The left lever controls the heater box levers, the one on the right connected to baffles beneath the Beetle rear seat and was used to direct/divert some of the heat to the rear passenger area. (those small holes in the panels beneath the rear seat bottom cushion) As such they're usless on the Speedsters.
