What happened to Rowlands- the guy who was suppose to post pics of the Speedster with the Golf engine??
I also want to see it. since I'm working on a watercooled 5 spd turbo vw speedster but not the watercooled/adapted/to/type/1 tranny type but the actual engine, tranny into a custom frame

engine capable of 250,000 miles without rebuilt

outlaw (no trim) look

right now I'm playing with radiator placing and trying to get some air flow to the specific placement (on design stage)

i also think about to fit a speedster with a water-cooled engine from a golf.
are there any problems with the body? does the engine fit into the body without any changes of the body?

Can you explain what you mean by a retractable hard top? Not sure how you can have it "hard" and "retractable". Can you supply pictures?
Ok, I'll admit some funny images came to mine on the retractable hardtop? I wasn't quite sure how Steve planned to accomplish that either, unless he meant removable hardtop?
someone on this site has the golf motor in his speedster. if memory serves he's the
south african who moved to europe.

Hi,yes I am the guy with golf engine in my speedster,yes it fits in without major problems and clears the body all around,mine is the 1800cc carburettor version,the only trick is to bolt on an adaption to get an air filter on to it.I dont know if the feul injection or 16valve versions will fit.Let me know if you need more info,glad to help.

i am glad to hear, from a person who realy knows it, that it fit into the body. i was a little bit afraid, because it does not fit inside the body of an beetle...
i will now begin to have a look for a good engine and maybe be able to start in a few mounth ( there are so many things to do... ).

Anytime mate,from your email adress I assume that you are in Germany.You have a great source parts.I have been looking at the CSP website as I need to get a better gearbox but I am worried that the freight charges will cost more than the gearbox.I am still trying to see whats available here in Portugal.What size engine are you going to use and can you get the adaptor and special flywheel over there.

sorry for the delay. i went to the sea for a few days...
i check the shipping costs of csp by an 31kg gearbox. it was 117,- euro. i also checked it on the " free market " and the prices are beginning at 101,- euro ( so the csp shipping-prices are really ok ).
the problem in germany is the shipping of heavy items. as i told before it was quite unexpensive up to 20kg.
there is also an other good shop for beetle parts ( on karmann parts, with better prices than csp ). maybe you want to check it out: http://shop.volkswarenhaus.de
