Hi guys yes its me Luis I built my car in South Africa and it sports a watercooled golf 1800 cc.All parts for this conversion are available over the counter even a nifty exhaust system ready to bolt on.My only problem is I now live in Portugal with the car of course and kit cars here are very scarce, mainly because of crap legislation and bearuecratic nonsense but if you import a built cvehicle its no problem.any way will be glad to answer any questions,I am so glad I found this website!!!!.Its really great keep up the good work....
Hi all,
This weekend I will put together more in depth pics, parts were all supplied by Volkspares in south Africa,
Basically it uses an adapter plate to match the gearbox to engine, special flywheel to take beetle clutch and pressure plate, standard starter,Golf radiator at an angle in the front,in place of the battery and of course rubber hoses front to back. The engine fits in quite snug and uses standard carb.I have not tried anything fancier as it already pulls quite well, now I need a gearbox with longer legs,on long trips it runs hot but in town runs very happy even in summer(lower engine revs). The chap who helped me finish the car in South Africa(Cobra replica builder-nice stuff too)built a speedster for his son which he fitted and old 3.0l Ford Essex V6 engine. Now thats a tight fit,the air cleaner was stuck in the compartment behind the rear seat and the decklid was cut to a single skin of fibreglass,Well thats about it for now I will during the weekend post more pics.
