It was twenty degrees F. this morning in Northern NJ and light snow on the grass but the roads were clear and dry. On Sunday mornings I usually jump on my bike and meet my  motorcycle buddies for breakfast in Ft Montgomery NY (just below West Point Army Academy) but I knew  that no one would be riding today. I put the top up and the side curtains on the Speedster and put a little starting fluid in one of the webers and the tub fired right up. I wore thermals and plugged my electric motorcycle gloves into  the  cigarette lighter receptacle and off I went through Harriman (Bear  Mountain) State Park where it was 17 degrees.I encountered 3 Porsches-an air-cooled turbo with the big Whale tail, a Boxter, and a fairly new 911 Carrera. I met my friends for breakfast and then took off again and drove up Perkins Drive which is a five mile road up a mountain with a lot of good twistys. It was a WPA project during the early 1930s built with a lot of hand labor and real steam engines-there are a lot of pictures of this construction in a five story observation tower  on the top of the mountain. The car ran great, I did about 80 miles and was comfortable even though  the so called heater did nothing. I was home by noon-it was the start of a good day.
