my neighbor is selling a
2002 Beck Spyder, by CHuck beck, not chuck beck motorsports.
1400 miles
silver blue with red interior

pristine condition,
had it inspected by a good vw mechanic---he confirmed.

options: soft top, tonneau cover, 2165cc engine.

disc brakes front, drums rear.
already registered, no hassle for me since the title could easily be transferred.

asking $19,900.

what do you guys think?

i would love to buy it, maybe offer 17.5-18.5.

Say i do get it, you guys think I could sell it within a year, asking $26k? Of course it would be expensive for the guys here on the forum, but what about the old rich guys that live around my area? You guys ever just sell it to one of these mid-life crisis or simply rich buyers? If anything, could I profit or break even?

Thanks,
Dino

This car, as described, seems a decent deal. But buying and flipping any niche market vehicle is a risky venture. It's also really bad form to do so with either your neighbor's car, a relative or a friends car. Strangers, now that's OK (lol).

The only reason to buy a spyder is because YOU want one. If that's the answer, the mechanics have already checked out, then quit posting and start DRIVING!

Um...Ethics aside...Think about it dawg...If this is a car that could be driven daily and increase in value by roughly 26% in one year, then why would the current owner want to sell it for $19,900?

Truth is, his price is within the the range of "appropriate" for a car with that many miles...Maybe a little low...Maybe not...But the car's not going to appreciate much, if at all.
Very good point. I was looking at a 98 Beck with 700 miles for $18,000. I don't want to resell, but drive all day long. Still thinking about it very seriously. I guess these cars don't appreciate much, if at all. Anyway, there is always someone selling their car on one of the sites. Another deal will always come along.
