Chris... I think it's all in knowing the car and owner when you purchase a used Speedster. If you meet Stan, you will know that his car is the right choice. He is exacting, demanding, detail oriented, and his Speedster reflects those qualities.

A TIV sounds great... but what is it's history? Is it a TRUE driver, or is it a hidden summer project that costs as much as that new deck you are saving for?

My recommendation? Buy an SOC member's car that has a history detailed on this forum. It is a known... and a damn good one. Stan's car IS like new.. and you will never get that hardtop done right for less than 3500 smackers. Stan went through the trouble to make sure his is right. Look at that CB ICT kit... looks, performance, ease of maint, and a daily driver.

When I look at Stans car, I think back on my days of buying pre-63 vettes... and that hardtop was such a plus. I have no idea what Stan put into it, but I'll venture a guess that it was not in that condition out of the box without some extensive work by Russ at Fibersteel. I have never seen a replica hardtop fit so good.

Just my 2 cents.

If you have the money and are serious, buy Stan's car.

It has a certified pedigree. I bought sight unseen and have been both lucky and not so lucky. This is a no-brainer for sight unseen.
(of course I saw it new, now it's better than new!)

If you post here for valid opinion, the 'ayes' have it and we have spent your money with the boy in Illinois...if you are just another guy who likes to read his name in print, there are quite a few cars on eBay you can laboriously trot to the typewriter about and I'm sure there will be just as many opinions, most all coming back to 'buy a car from someone who has expressed care and concern over his build, professionally built, and known to a large segment of this car Club.'

Dude, spend the money and enjoy the spring.
Chris, to answer your question; something that posters here forget to do sometimes. There are a lot of variables but for my 2 cents, your friends car is worth $19-$23 K. Or more to the fact, it is worth whtaever he's willing to let it go for and whatever someone else is willing to pay.
