Good looking starter Speedster 10,500!

Seems to be a pretty good deal!

A starter Speedster is just what I'm looking for. What are some concerns I should have?  What do I need to ask this guy?

It looks straight and not cobbled together.  You just need to check how it's titled/registered and if that is transferable to your state. Ideally its registered as an older VW which is probably exempt from emissions testing and qualifies for reduced cost antique plates.  Should you buy ask for any receipts and paperwork he may have as that will help maintenance down the road.  That's quite a deal for the nice mods that were thoughtfully added.  A new interior is not that costly or hard to do.

Go there and listen to it.  Drive it around.  Listen to the engine for obvious knocks or blowing any smoke.  How clean is the engine compartment?  Dry-dirty or oily residue in there?  That sort of stuff....  If you can't be there, ask on here for someone local to go take a look and take pictures for you.

 

A new interior would be about $1,500 bucks - still short money for that well-sorted car. 

 

Don't drag your feet on this one - it won't last at that price.

Yup, it even looks like it was raised in a nice. neat neighborhood...sometimes that's a sign that people take care of things.

Yeah, I agree.  It's always a bummer when a deal slips through your fingers.

Keep looking. This is the kind of car you want to buy. Another one will come along. Or talk to Alan and see if you can buy it when he's done.

If that car wasn't in Kentucky Alan would not have beat me to it and it would have been the 1st CMC I have bought.  You snooze you lose on the good deals like this.

It is a case of "new owner discovery" aka NOD and always more to be done on project than is stated by a seller. I still have some speedy parts and resources available. Hey since Gordon is retired and almost done redoing Pearl, maybe I'll invite him done for a Fall noon tea since I won't get into this before

Thank you Alan.  My lack of experience with these cars leads me to be overly cautious with the "to good to be true deals."  Someone would have beat me to it anyway. Glad it was someone from the forum. Will be in touch.

OK Alan.  I'll give you $11,000 for it right now!  It's a win win for both of us.  You make $1,000 and I get a CMC that you just know is going to need a lot of work.  I'll bet it takes at least a half day of detailing before it's ready to be flipped!

Besides, then you can stick to your pledge that you are done refurbishing Speedsters.  

Pkultra.  In case you didn't know Alan & Troy are our Speedster flippers.  Alan is over 30, not sure about Troy, but quite a few.

Anyone of us would have complete confidence buying a car that they've gone over.

Buying it from Alan is better than buying it directly.  You will pay a little more, but it will be money very well spent.

Just to be clear, Alan can build these cars from the ground up, I don't have those kind of skills.

 

Got this CMC here on Saturday...Lots of undisclosed work needs to be done. Doable but disappointing that the Seller misrepresented the condition..... and so it goes.

By any slim chance did anyone here print off the Samba ad for the CMC before it was deleted?  Alan
