You remind me a lot of some of the Sales guys I used to have to deal with at my last company. Some of them were smart, would listen a lot, were very quick learners and would do very well in life at whatever they tried.
Others always tried to take the short cuts, asked a lot of questions but only listened to what they wanted to hear and, later on when something went wrong because of their bad decisions, they tended to blame everyone but themselves.
