Welcome to the Madness, Tyler.  If you can't make Carlisle you should at least try to hook up with the SE caravan for lunch on Wednesday the 14th.  If you're coming to Carlisle you need to get busy as hotels rooms in the area are going fast.  Hope to see you there.

Hey Tyler!  Where are you in East Tennessee?  And yes, welcome to the madness.  

 

Greeting Tyler.  Beautiful car.  You got the deal of the year.  How close are you to Deals Gap?  Going to try and hook up some local east coast enthusiasts for a yearly pilgrimage to the Gap.  Have gone 5 straight years on a bike and I really miss it.

 

The Dragon...318 curves in 11 miles.

Hoss.  I just Google Mapped Loudon TN.  Holy Sh*t you live 30 minutes from the Dragon.  That's crazy.  I'd never go to work.

I went to Heritage High school which is 5 min from Foothills pkwy.  Used to skip school and go up there when it was 33% narrower than now. This will be the slowest car I've ever owned and probably the most fun.  I spin my own wrenches folks.  I'm going to need help identifying what I have.  Full pics to come.

Phil, Hoss hasn't worked in years.  A bunch of us have done the Dragon several times.  If we put another trip together you should join us.

With my job I need about 6 months notice but I'll definitely attend a Deals Gap trip.  Tyler for most of those roads, suspension and tires will be more important than speed... but obviously you already know this.  Except for the Foothills Parkway that you mentioned.  Lots of long gentle sweepers.  Averaging the ton through there on a sport bike is pretty easy.  In our cars not so much but it still would be fun.  I am green with envy.

Any thoughts on the first couple of things I should do to it (other than driving and grinning?)  It's in excellent shape.  Leaks a little oil, so I know it has oil in it.  Need to pull the distributor to see if it still has points.  Figure out how to get it on a jack, etc.

@Hoss, I'm in Knoxville.   Powell, specifically.

WTTM, Tyler. Driving and grinning will be a great start! Make sure there's enough oil in it and air in the tires. So, do we get to see some pics of your new car? I'm not familiar with Vic's ride. What size engine is in it, and do you know any details (cam, compression, heads, exhaust tube size, carbs)? Transaxle ring & pinion? How high does it rev with power? I'm a details guy; I have to know these things....Al

The only specifications  have is that it's PDN (pretty damn nice.)  It's a 1600 square back engine (anecdotally) with dual carbs.  Brochure from the period lists the spec as 88hp, but there's no telling.  I'll post a lot of pics and hope you can help me fill in the blanks on the details.

Tyler, if you're in Powell you live very close to where my Red Man was born.  It was built by Specialty Auto-Sports in Halls.  I may be over there sometime before the Carlisle drive if time permits.

Hey Al,

 

Picked up the car yesterday and made the 1h20m drive home, including some time on the interstate.  70mph indicated was more like 64mph on my GPS and more or less 3600rpm.  The car has a linear torque curve, and goes eagerly to 5k rpm where I called it quits.  Redline is marked at 6k.  Otherwise, the car and I were both content to stay between 2-4k for day 1.
