You know I wasn't the biggest fan of the slogan either. I thought it was a little morbid myself. I just made them didn't design it. I would of thought a little more of a classic look and feel would have been better. What would you guys think about holding another contest for a 50th aneversery Badge, It is coming uo next year.... What do you guys think?

Guys,
I have to admit I was a bit put off by the rather "James Dean-ish" tone of the text on the badge, but what the hey? My driving is fairly conservative and I would never put myself or my passenger in danger by taking any foolish risks. Anyone who knows me would realize that and those who don't and misunderstand the message (which is a goof with a capital 'G') is entitled to think what they choose. What do you see as the downside to the "advertising" of the message, as you put it? Perhaps I am missing something.

Stan,
Thanks. Point taken. I have a grown daughter in grad school who I have endeavored her entire life to be a good example for. I think she knows me well enough to that the "life fast...die young" is not my mindset. As far as what other young people who may show up at a show or meet, your comments do raise a concern for me. I think we should have new badges.

ps. my Dad was older and more boring than yours was....guaranteed.
Live fast ... maybe sometimes but at my age not very often.

Die young ... That can't happen unless young think anyone over 50 is young.

Leave a beauitful corpse... If you think gray, balding, wrinkled and over weight can be beauitful.

Maybe we can have two badges.

live fast, Die young and Leave a beauitful corpse.

Live long, Die old and leave a beauitful car.

Dick

John,

I use to agree with you... wouldn't have been a problem with putting the slogan on my car so long as I didn't act that way.

A year ago I was in a coma for about 10 days. No one knew I'd make it after my motorcycle accident. Fortunately God was watching over me. I would never want my family or friend to go through what I put everyone through 15 months ago. That type of slogan would be a terrible reminder.

Regarding the car badge. I agree with most of the replies...I was all for the group badge until it came out the way it did. That was when I stopped routinely checking this site.....to be blunt, it sounded like something from the Hell's Angels ... not a classic Speedster group logo. I'd be all for a new and intelligent/classy badge. Just as a point (since I'm sure it'll come up associated with this subject)..I spoke with Kirk about inhibiting air flow (via badges on the engine intake grill)...he said the force of air is adequate with up to four badges...duh, me being an engineer, I was a bit red-faced...of course, the venturi remains the dominant force. And, after driving my VS 356 all over the Intermountain West, and to Monterey last summer, I was assured Kirk was right. not overheating with four badges (PCA, 356 registry {anniv}, 356 registry regular, and Sebring Porsche comp com. Anyway, I'm all for a new badge. cheers, bill
Hi All...
My two cents worth on badges; no slogan, traditional style and perhaps an oval shape...I have an oval ADAC on my car (totally terrific touring tub, or whatever in the files)as well as a couple round jobbies. They seem to compliment one another.

Most importantly, does Theron want to put the energy required into badge soliciting again? Were there any profits for the site in this club endeavor?

Trying to convince a son and an impressionable nephew that just because 'Uncle Paul did it' doesn't make it a good idea...
Boy do some of past life's choices come back to bite you on the ass!

It sounds like a consensus is building for a more basic (sloganless) design...perhaps like some of the original offerings? Theron, since you're willing, how about posting the "non-winners" for a second look?
Also, is it more expensive to have them made "earless" - i.e. with a back-mounted, center post for invisible installation? Many thanks!
O.K. the reason you guys want a new badge is because of the live fast die young slogan. I didn't buy one of those for the exact reason you don't like them now. And no offense to Theron but I really don't want to turn my car into a rolling advertisement for a website? It's akin to the used car dealer putting his name and location on my license plate frame. Albeit a badge is much more classy. All I'm saying is to give this a little thought before you spend time and money reproducing these things.
