John, I like the oval. You have my vote.
Todd
I'd buy either one of John's designs, but I too prefer the oval.

Wow!!! And I thought I was all alone on my views of the "other badge". This is great! I love the oval...and think John's enhancement is EXCELLENT!! I'll place an order for that hybrid as we speak. I think going with something with the class of a true classic is fantastic...a bit of pride, ya know. And, the oval sets it beyond the 356 registry and pca badges. Thanks, John! bill

John,
I like the black oval design but in red. Also spaces in the name Speedster Owners Club. What does everyone think of adding a year date?
John, I think your doing a great design job!

Red would be OK for silver and black cars, but what about the guys with green or blue (exteriors or interiors)- I think black would probably be better for more people. As far as the year goes, it wouldn't keep me from buying one, but I'd prefer it just the way John has it.

O.K. I am a Graphics pro. 4years of art school and 10 years at an ad agency and counting. I designed nine of the fourteen entries in last years contest. First off I don't appreciate anyone "tweaking" my work. So pleae DO NOT borrow my designs and claim them as yours. That aside, I think what would make either of those designs better is replacing the yellow/gold with silver. Classy and stylish and would look good on any color car.
Withdrawn.

Per slatinsky's post below, I'm taking down the new badge designs. Never meant to "claim them as (mine)." Sorry if I stepped on any toes...not my intention.

I agree with Barry. I think the current grill badge won the "vote" because it was the most attractive design. I think I, and perhaps others, just kind of turned a blind eye to a logo we really didn't like much. The present badge, less the James Dean effect, has a real nice look to it.
I know- how about a pentagon shaped badge with the starship Enterprise, only like a speedster with flames coming out of the tailpipes, and a logo that says "Live Long and Prosper-356". And the star-date- but in an understated, "classy" way.
Well now. We surely have made progress on this idea. It seeems we liked the old design (except for the shape, and color), but didn't like the slogan. The new design needs a new slogan or no slogan, a date or no date, to be oval and round- and then we would LOVE it! (as long as the website badge doesn't have a web adress on it). We had a design we liked, but couldn't use it because it was a modification of another design, and a third guy didn't like it. I think this is why art is not produced by a committee.
When all this started, I just wanted a classic badge from this website that didn't make me feel like an escapee from juvinile detention. But after 51 posts- maybe the old design is exactly what we need to accurately represent this discussion. I've still got my old one, if someone wants it.

Anyone remember what the cost of our last badges were? I seem to have short term memory loss. Thanks
I put a picture in the file "356 Options" of a gold pendant I have depicting a speedster going down a winding road. Something like that with a slogan in the circle would make a good badge.

Brian-
That, my friend, is cool. As long as the "motto" isn't something goofy- I'm in.

Where's the oval referrenced?
Re: grill badges.
Shall we look at this question again? Seems almost a year has gone by since the issue was raised, and Dario posted about them today in another forum.
A club grill badge would be nice to have for the East and West coast gatherings.
No design will please everyone, but if we can come to some general consensus, perhaps we can get one made up.

Re the badge, it seems to me this would make a dandy value-added bonus for those that financially contribute to the upkeep of this site. (Which reminds me... I need to pony up myself!)
Can I be candid? $36 bucks isn't much, however, it goes against the whole "free web" mindset.
For my two cents it could be lowered and maybe more people would pay up... but if I got a badge for the full fare I wouldn't blink. So perhaps link a "free" club badge to the $36 yearly contribution, and that be the only way to obtain a badge.

I would support it....
Erik,
Here are the options.
1) Treat this site like "Free" television. That means forced full page adds 20% of the time, just like ad breaks on television. I don't think anyone wants that.
2) Give away a $25 dollar badge for each $36 yearly contribution. Then I have to try and operate on $11 per year per user. Not to mention I have to buy at least 50 badges ($1250) up front and stock them, as well as mail them to each person. Result: The site goes under in a matter of months if I don't personally contribute.
3) Charge a mandatory subscription fee. Result: Far-Far-Far fewer people join. The site has no support from members and dies a slow death.
4) Provide everything for free. I personally come up with the DSL line cost, not a typical $29 DSL line either. A minimum of $100 a month for the DSL line charge to support a server. Then the cost of continually upgrading the servers software and hardware. I figure I have about $4k of software on this $500 computer. Oh, plus my time is donated.
5) Ask for voluntary contributions of $36 per year, only $3 a month. If anyone doesn't think the site is worth $3 a month, they don't have to contribute. But, in the future they will receive some non-popup nag ads.
Those are the only choices I can think of, I'm open to any others.

I agree with Theron. As someone that spends WAY too much time on this site it is somewhat rediculous that we don't pony up a little more to help keep this site alive. Should Theron open up to advertising, maybe have a page (no pop-ups) called, SpeedsterOwners suppliers page? This way some suppliers can open up to us. How about, Platinum members that maybe have access to a discount to those suppliers. Platinum members pay more. There are many professionals on this site as well. How about donating merchandise to Theron to sell to members. FREE T-shirts, art to put on the T shirts etc...

I think either of the two Theron posted would get my vote....
Would prefer not to see the word "Porsche" on the badge....

What about this for a slogan:
"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
If I had any art skills at all I would have a t-shirt made up with a "traditional" in the foreground and a "flared" (aka J-lo) in the background with this quote along the top or bottom.
Later,
Jerome

I think the black would look best because it would have to be enameled. By the way these are not my design, they are Patrick Slatin's. He submitted them during the badge contest last year.
Patrick, if we use one, I will be sure to try and dig up something for you.

Check eBay Germany. It's kinda cool. Then copy & paste the add copy onto one of the translator pages on the web and see what the history, event etc is. The Eagle you have is indeed an automobile association that dates way back! The association, not this particular badge.
On US eBay there is a seller goes by German Car badges(?) and he spells out this organization's name. It's a lot of words! Many rally and event badges carry this ADAC logo on them only smaller.
If I may be so bold, what did you have to pay for your eagle and where did you get it?
I lifted the web address out of barry's post:Germancarbadge.com

ADAC is the German national auto club. Similar to the AAA. They are famous in Europe for their travel tours and vacations, as well as motoring rallies, etc.
The eagle is from the Teutonic days in what is now northern Germany.

Why reinvent the wheel? The eagle badge with Speedster Owners Club in place of ADAC would make a dandy and period-authentic badge design. All other designs are personal taste.
Theron,
Having been on this site for only months, I am at a disadvantage
here....What was the result of the badge thing last year when you guys voted....was there a winner? were badges made?
It appears with all the suggestions to this thread, as of late,
this will take some time to get accomplished......
Do you think we can actually come up with one that MOST will
agree on...........

I really like the artwork, have to agree that the live hard.....thing is to 1950 heel's angel biker philisophy type thing, like to stay away from that. At some point, let's vote on the best choice, have them made, and each of us pay 20% over the manufacturing cost, and lket the difference help support the site.

Hey Theron,,,,,where's my smiley face, I donated an annual last week?
I always thought that the Speedster look was "the essence of cool".
How 'bout that for a slogan?

It's not that it indicates carefree so much....it just seems care-less, and not considerate of the rights of others. We seem to be a group that have families, and frankly my wife won't let me live hard, although it's too late to die young, (for me) She seems to have just enough life insurance on me, that even if I died, she'd be on this forum looking for a younger version of me!!!
