I'm thinking of grinding the inside edges of my CMC fenders to get the thickness more like an original. I have flat edges about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and would like it to be more like a 1/4 in kind of like the edges on a Vintage. Has anyone done this to a CMC. It seems like if I ground it more wth a taper than a square edge it would look way better. Mark

I did this to the 9114GT-style flares and the wide body 356 flares that I picked up.

Be careful and use a right angle grinder fitted with a flapper wheel to accomplish the job.

Brush on a coat or two of fiberglass resin when you're done to seal up the exposed raw fiberglass mat, sand a bit and brush on some flat black.

Easy Peasy
Using a 36 grit 4" wide x 24" belt sander belt stapled to a 2x4, say 18" to 24" long. This will be your tool.
Put the car up on good stable blocks, and remove the tires.
While sitting under the fender looking out, with your sanding block in hand, sand the thickness of the fender lip down to your desired thickness. Using this sanding block method gives a unionform thickness and levels out the high spots in the lip.

Parting shot: Put a box fan under their with you as well, this will hold the dust around you down to a minimum.
