I've had my 2003 Speedster insured by Hagerty's right from the beginning. I've read good if not great reviews from members on SOC. My only claim was when the car broke down and needed to be towed 2 miles to home. It was $85 for the load & tow and they covered $50 of the bill.

When we finally moved from NY to CT. We had our two daily drivers - insured with USAA switched over and received almost 40% off our NY rate. Thinking WOW! - I then contacted Hagerty's and was expecting a little bit of a discount, but only got "there's really no discount for these specialty cars", "they are pretty much a set rate" excuse.

I then requested for a change of address so I could register the car in CT. After several days wait, they sent me an updated NY Insurance ID instead (someone wasn't paying attention). I also wasn't very happy with their explanation of why they couldn't give me a break on my policy.

My wife contacted USAA and they are claiming to match my Hagerty policy less ten percent. Now I'm just waiting on their quote and still waiting for Hagerty's to send my CT ID.

That's my rant....

There is no incentive for specialty insurance providers to offer us a discount of any sort. They figure this is their corner of the market and they are going to extract what they can as long as they can. I don't think this attitude is exclusive to Hagerty.

On the up side Hagerty is very active in following legislation that threatens to erode the future enjoyment of our cars (and of course their livelihood). I urge everyone on this forum to stay current on what their thieving politicos are up to in the name of greenhouse gas or lost registration revenue.

I got an inadvertent rate break when Hagerty dumped me after my DUI debacle. I am now insuring the speedster with my other cars and have better coverage, no mandated mileage restriction and it costs a few hundred a year less even with damn points on my record!
