Hey!

Speaking of Thanksgiving...... We thought that our two kids and their families would be joining us for this Thanksgiving, but were told back in October that our daughter and grandson couldn't make it. We were bummed, but what'cha gonna do?

Then, a week ago, Chris calls and tells us (in a deadpan voice) that Karen's doctor recommends that she not travel in the first ten weeks of her new pregnancy...........massive pause...........Then all hell breaks loose with his Mom.

Yup, we're gonna be grandparents again with Chris and Karen.

So we don't get any visitors for Thanksgiving, but have one more thing to be thankful for.

Chris, Karen, Gordon, and Kathy: WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOs all around!

Definitely something to be thankful for, besides all the things I am already blessed with.

Re revving up kids: I used to do it to my sister's kids, three sisters, five kids. Now they do it a little with my two, but that's ok.
Hey, wait a minute - enough of the plotting to rev the kid up - I can read this too! :)

Thanks for the congratulations and well wishes, everyone. Karen and I are very excited, and terrified at the same time. :) She's been a trooper so far with the first months - she feels as though she's hungover pretty much 24x7, but without the headache... or the drinking the night before!

She's due the first week in June, so depending on how we're shaping up towards May will dictate whether or not I'll make it to Carlisle this spring. But, so far everything's just as the doc tells us it should be, and Karen is very much looking forward to a Thanksgiving that she can eat all she wants without any regrets for once!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Chris
Actually, both Chris and Karen are great cooks. Chris and his friends get together sometime every Summer for a "see if you can out-do THIS!" cook-out they've dubbed the "Meat-a-palooza" and the stuff they all cook up is absolutely outstanding!.

I think he's gotten most of his great cooking abilities from his Mom, and the burned, "charco-chip-chicken" abilities from me.... 8>(

Fortunately, he's forgotten most of my techniques...

When we lived closer, Chris and I conspired on a few deep fried turkeys, then he got the bug and has done some outstanding birds. And, no, neither of us have burned the house (or garage) down.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Drive safely if you travel!

Gordon, Kathy and the pups

Yo, Gramps: congrats on #2-to-be, which is my count so far. Very cool stuff. As to the lonley TG dinner thing, you could have gotten into one of your many conveyances (or even bought a plane ticket) and paid them a visit, ya know. Coulda been like that. Anyway, Happy belated TG, and best wishes to Chris & Co. for a REALLY big change in their lives that's on the way. All good news I'm happy to hear about.
Thanks for all the thoughts, everyone! We're all looking forward to the next Grandkid!!

There's a lot of History around here.....

Remember that South Carolina was the state that first came up with the "Letters of Secession" which declared that it, and all of it's very wealthy planters (which made Beaufort the richest town on the entire East Coast before the Civil War) was seceding from the Union. In fact, those letters were drawn up in a house just off of Bay Street right here in Beaufort (now called the "Secession House").

When the Union Navy sailed into Beaufort harbor, all of those wealthy planters thought that the War would only last a few weeks before the Confederate army won, and they had already taken off to other places in what was called back then, "The Great Skee-Dadle", leaving only a few slaves to take care of the planter's opulent homes. The town was taken without a shot and became a hospital town for the Union forces. Many of those mansions became hospitals or barracks for union forces, and many were later sold to the freed slaves who once worked there (they were all given jobs working in the town). Google "Robert Smalls of Beaufort, SC" for a good read on this stuff.

Out near Dan's property on Cat Island is the Secession Golf Course (guess what THAT place is named for) and there's a Pub/Restaurant there called, of all things, the "British Open Pub" and yes, it would be very cool to have a bunch of Speedsters and Spyders out front, parked under their huge, sweeping Live Oak trees.

Even with Pearl up North, we still have four Speedsters and one Spyder lurking around town, but it would always be cool to have even more!! Besides, Peter McEwan is working in Saudi Arabia for the next year or so and has his Speedster in storage.

Let me know ahead of time when you'll be here, Dan, and we'll all hook up. There's also a great Gullah restaurant out in Frogmore, and a new place downtown, called the Breakwater, that's great, too.

Looking forward to seeing you!
