Had a chance to put about 50 miles on the car with the hardtop fitted today. Got up to 70-75 mph the odd time and hit some bumps here and there. No trouble with the top staying on. Not that noisy either and I still haven't installed any kind of headliner. I've given up on trying to do a nice job on the Alacantara material I had on hand for that and will likely take the easy route out and do the truck bed liner roll on stuff and finish it off with some SEM paint.

Looks great David !
Beautiful job, David , do you keep the soft top underneath ?
As Lane would say -- and may yet -- SHWEEEEETTTT!
David, the car looks brilliant, and the top is primo. We're talking new paint here, right? Can't wait to catch up w/ you, Frannie and your car. But I will . . .
Actually Kelly it's "SuhWEEEEEET!!!"
Nice job, David. Do my eyes deceive me or have things actually started to turn green up there?
Well said, Mr. Anderson -- nicely put.
You and your Guards Red making it to Carlisle together in a few days??
Thanks, Lads. Yup, Lane....getting a bit green.
The soft top came out by removing two bolts and they now hold the rear quarters of the hard top down via two over center latches. It's hard to see but in the hard top just above the door handle there is the head of a 5/16" SS bolt.
How did you do the rear window and rubber gasket? Let's get Carl working on his.
I'll be there one way or t'other.
The rear window goes in tomorrow morning, Greg. There will be some cursing going on for sure. I'll be practising the weed wacker line trick.
"Is that one-a-them "Karmenn Ghias??
(sorry, just got off of that other thread.....)
Got the rear glass in the top tonight ! HOT DAWWWWG !!!! Got two extra hands from Francine and it actually went in fairly easily. Slow and steady did it. Didn't use the weed wacker trick either. Soaped the bugger up and in she went, pried along here and there with a putty knife.
VW demos on utube show putting the gasket on the glass first then put that package onto the car but I did the reverse and found it easier. I was worried about this task and I'm glad it's over.
I'll get the side glass done for the doors early next week. Should be easy now.

You da mann, Dave!!!
Very impressive, David. Now, if someone should get a cracked windshield at Carlisle, you can help them...
See you in May.
Bob
David, I think you are writing the book on how to do a hard top. Looks perfect. You are setting the standard.
Sweet lid Dave. Better looking than a conv D with a lid.
