Jamie, Use the "Search" function and you will have some interesting reading. Good luck.
Jamie --
Basically, you're screwed. If history is any indicator you don't have a good chance of seeing your parts any time soon (if at all), and you can forget about ever seeing a refund. I'm "just saying"; if it were me I'd order the remaining parts I needed from a reputable supplier, like Special Editions and get them next week. Then I'd mentally write-off the balance of what's outstanding from my $2000 with Vintage Spyders. If the parts ever do show up; great, I'll sell them to someone else. If they never show up; so what, I'd have moved-on.
Don't don't feel like you are the only one who has been screwed, Jamie. In fact you are just another Vintage Victim in a long line of Vintage Victims. Here is just one example: http://www.spyderclub.com/view....php?f=8&t=13693
Fish around on spyderclub and you'll find many, many more.
NOTE: Vintage Speedsters is not the same company as Vintage Spyders!! Vintage Speedsters wrote the book on how to provide outstanding customer service and lives by it. Apparently Vintage Spyders never had an ambition to read it.
I ordered a couple hundred dollars worth of parts from Greg at Vintage Spyders (not Speedsters) a few months ago and had no problems. Even when it turned out that I ordered the wrong part (my fault), he quickly responded and sent the correct one, he even threw in a second piece that I needed at no charge.
Also, I've been on the list since 2007 and I don't recall seeing numerous complaints about Greg. That doesn't mean there haven't been any, but this thread tends to make it look like there have been lots of problems and I'm just not sure that is really the case.
I wouldn't write off your $2000 order just yet.
Troy
Back when I was researching replicas I did a lot of reading on the Spyder forums. While everyone praised the Vintage frame as the best, there were many many complaints about multi-year wait times for cars, lack of response on orders, etc. I'm surprised he's still in business based on what I read as nothing appears to have improved.
RS-60 mark,
Did Sanders in the Netherlands ever get his $3,000 parts from Greg?
Site Administrator stopped that dramatic thread of angst and betrayal after eleven pages...just when it was reaching a climatic conclusion, so I never got to read the final chapter.
carlberry -- I don't know what (if any) of the outstanding parts Sanders ever received. I do see that he and NL Spyder are ordering parts from alternative sources so I can only speculate they have written-off ever getting what they claim to have paid for from Vintage Spyders. Similar stories of complaint are commonly repeated regarding Vintage Spyders.
Troy -- just an observation:
Your post might be interpreted to be an endorsement of Vintage Spyders as being a reputable company providing consistently honest and responsive customer service. Such a representation could be unfair and misleading to someone who didn't know any better. Based on your recommendation that person might likely find themselves in the same boat with Jamie and the other long list of Vintage Spyders victims.
Your statement that you haven't seen numerous complaints about Vintage Spyders since 2007 indicates you haven't seen them, not that they don't exist. If you had seen them (there's plenty) you'd possibly chosen to do your own business with other sources of better repute.
