Cool video, but the car he rented had some quality issues

His comments on the transaxle show his ignorance. VW's (Borg Warner licenced) syncros shift way nicer than the Porsche design of the time. Great looking car though.
Beautiful care but it's sure not "sky blue" bud
I have watched a lot of his videos in the past. I generally like his stuff.
@ALB he mentioned how he never drove a real speedster in the video. Therefore, I'm assuming he's comparing the VW syncros to his 80s Porsche. Or possibly his 60s 912.

Porsche stuck with their own inferior syncros until sometime in the '70's or early '80's- I think it may have been the G50 trans where they finally gave in and went with the Borg Warner design? A VW trans in good shape shifts much nicer than a '60's 901 series trans, (especially the 901's dogleg 1-2 shift) so if shifting in the replica Speedster wasn't butter smooth then something (any thing from worn syncros and/or bearings to the mounts, shift rod bushing, or even the shifter itself) has gone bad.
Hmmm... I've only driven one 356, a beautifully restored '64 C Coupe, and I recall it's shift action to truly be "buttery smooth."
The 915 transmission has a horrible shift from first to second. It’s a known problem, with no known cure. You really have to slowly ‘feel’ your way into second gear. Makes it difficult to get away from a stop light with an SUV right on your rear bumper.
I can't complain about a type 1 shifter action AT ALL.
My buddy's 915 in his '78 SC shifts slow and crappy, I hear you, Bob.

But once I get out of first, it's 'full speed ahead'. I enjoy third gear the most in this car, based mainly of the speed limits around here. :-) Once I hit fourth, the engine is almost at idle speed...
But, yes, I would love a better shifting 1st to 2nd transmission. I'll never beat anyone from a dead start.
I did not know that we were street racers in our cars ....
I do think that once you get into second things do start to get more fun.
Yesterday, I tried my new cruise on a four lane highway, for an hour, coming home and I think I am hooked for using it on the long runs like going to Carlisle.
Sure is restful on your right foot @Bob: IM S6 you might like one Bob in that cruiser.
Bob, you're right, after 1-2 it's fine.
cab-ri-o-let, I'd watch the video just to hear him say that word that way again...
@Will Hesch- I saw a set of finned rear 356 brakes in the swap meet at the Great Canadian VW show yesterday, Will, and thought of you. Those aluminum drums are gorgeous- and only $1,000...
...such a deal!
