North Hollywood Speedometer and Palo Alto Speedometer are both excellent shops that can rebuild, reface, relight all makes and models of speedos. Many of the units that come stock with certain manufacturers are cheap Chinese junk that need new internals.
Mine is a VDO from Brazil. Just left the speedo shop, he returned after being out for 9 days. He tested mine and thought the unit was OK but that wear or improper install of the cable at the front wheel was causing a bind where the cable enters the rear of the case forcing the needle to go all the way around. Gave me suggestions of how to fix it simply. I will be trying that tonight when I get home. He called it Speedometer 101. Hope he is correct. He did say he could rebuild it etc for $150 if it came to that.
