Help again, My little speedster has a 1600 engine and dual carbs, the problem being they are so old they don't make them anymore, they are solex.
What do I need, will I have to have new manifolds, linkage or what all will I be looking to buy to replace these antiques with two new ones?
As usual, thank you for your continued help.

Thanks Jack, The shop mechanic said that these carbs were so old that they didn't make them anymore. It was built in 88 and only has 1800 miles on it, it sat for 12 years after being built so I have had a number of issues to try to get sorted out with the little car. I really like it and am wanting to get it where I am not afraid to go out of town with it without all of the towing companies numbers along the route.
I wouldn't trash the old ones. You should be able to get rebuild kits for the old Solexs. What model is stamped on them - probably from a Type 3. Buy a gallon of carb cleaner and tear them down and rebuild them. They are most likely German ones and superior to ones from down south. If really worn you may have to rebush the throttle plate shafts (or send them out to have it done).
Jerry,
The 'standard' replacement carbs are Weber 34ICT's. You're looking at about $700 for the carbs and manifolds, or close to it.
The Solexs are good carbs and if jetted properly for your engine can be as good as the webers. The only issue I ever had with mine was the linkage but there are people that sell decent linkages too. To rebuild them is probably way cheaper than buying new Webers.
I' guessing you have he very desirable old 28 pict's . used on many 1600cc engines. and were concidered the most reliabe twins for many years, because they had chokes. and were perfect for stockers

If you can re ferials the throttle shafts with new brass inserts they will live again and be fine. Their has to be someone out their that reconditions the old ones.

I do know that C.B.Performace has a 34 Solex/Brosol And it looks like the one above twins type 3 that worked pretty good on my 1710. And Cb sold me a set of idle solenoids for my upgrade to 1745. they offer a good asortments of jets for them and if they offer a smaller 28 venturi pair for them ,(and they have a switchable Venturi)

That might be a good substitute for you and they do come with chokes, If you specify Chokes.. (which I would)!!!!!! and do get the solenoids also so it dosent try to keep running when you shut it down.

Talk to Daniel at CBP tell what your doing. I think he can help you But make sure you tell him it's a 1600. and you DON"t want a single progressive weber. They give trouble
I do have a lot of bookmarked Samba links; many others as well; I find it is so much easier just to "save" these sites/web pages as I have learned the hard way that trying to go back and find something "from the other day" is a pain in the butt!
It's easy to fall in love with ANY 356 era Porsche-it matters not to me if it's a Speedster, Conv-D, or coupe. I'll keep on shooting these links out there as I know somebody is gonna enjoy em!

Here's another small site I like for OLD Porsches (the more I see "splits"/pre-A's, the more I like their simplicity).

I do like how the new solex/brosol is designed for adjusabilty It is offered with a 30 and 34 vinturi , and you could just leave the venturi out an make it a 36. With all the jets they have avalible Perfect for a mild engine build .

And a heck of a lot cheaper than the true Twin WEBERS That don't have chokes and give trouble in cold weather. A great carb but not good for daily use.

I know the guys here believe the adage there is (No replacement for Displacement). But mild engine ussaly live longer..
