I guess I'm going to have to break down and get me the grilles
for my head lights...they just look like they belong there....
Looked on VS site can't see them in the accessories section,
called them, no answer....maybe gone for the holidays...
If you have a set sitting around and been thinking of selling
drop me a line...

I've got 4 new sets laying around in my garage. These are NOT the Vintage repro's, but high quality versions from Germany. The grills are cast metal, not stamped & finished in high-quality Chrome plating. Being made in Germany, the fit is perfect. These grills replace the entire glass lens. The mounting hardware is also Chrome plated and are exact copies -the bolt is a two-piece design- just like original. The grills are priced at $145/pr + shipping.
Question: When you put these grilles on, I understand you have to remove the outer headlight lens. Wouldn't that cause problems such as rust of the inner surfaces of the headlight shell (e.g. driving in the rain, etc.)?

Do you have to (I think George did this) coat the headlight shell for protection? I remember someone put these grilles over the lens, but I don't know which is the 'original' approach.

Thanks

Bob
I used these on my IM but had to make a few changes.

The headlights on my car were not sealed beam nor were they the H4 sealed beam replacement units but they were the old European H4 units. That meant that the glass lens is what basically "sealed" the lights from the elements and focused the light...without it the H4 bulb would be exposed and there would be no lens to focus the light. I had to replace those units with H4 replacement for sealed units.

The light buckets did not really fit the replacement units so I took the buckets from an old 912 I had and adapted them to the IM unit...very easy. As added bonus was that I had had the 912 buckets powder coated a light grey...that should solve the corrosion problem and they look very nice behind the chrome grilles.

The grilles were from Tweeks and fit my IM and early 912...the only thing is that the chrome ring on the 912 is different in that it does not attach to the body by the tab at the bottom...

At any rate, happy with the look.
