John,
I had the same concern. I am 6'5" and 270.
I own a 57'CMC with the basic speedster seat shells and I fit fine with the top up. The type of seat and thickness of cushion is a major factor.
O.K. that was about "fitting" in one. Getting in and out of ANY speedster with the top up is quite the gymnastic event. I am 36y.o. and limber enough to still think it's fun. If it were my daily driver in a cold climate....the fun would probably fade.
Look for the Speedster runs and casual get-togethers and go sit in a few.
BTW, the last thread on this issue prompted quite a few responses from 6'+ and 200+ owners.

Brian.
Only somewhat related, but too embarassing to admit not knowing in a new post...

do these things all have rear seats?

Granted, if they do, they must be rather pointless... but I do have children that I cart a few blocks to school now and then.

I've seen some photos with rear seats but most often that area is not photographed or covered.

Thanks.

(i might as well be asking if these things typically come with headlights... i should KNOW THIS!!)
Adrian,
A lot of people call the rear area a "cargo tray" enen if it's upholstered. I had no upholstery in my first car, and a seat cushion with two seat belts in this one. If I had it to do again, I would put the cushion in the car, but not the seat belts- they are pretty pointless unless you are talking about a 5 year old kid, and even then....
Hi Adrian the rear area is small when the top is folded down. Enough room for a tool box, 12 beers and 2 bags of groceries. I don't think anyone will be able to squeeze their feet behind the seat unless you like a steering wheel in the chest. It's a 2 seater only. Yeah everything else is there, headlights, wipers, windshield washers, stereos etc..
John,
Definitly find one to sit in and drive with the top up. I'm 6'4 and
230.I'm 57,with some arthritis, and it was near impossible for me to
get in and out of. I opted for a 356sc coupe (since sold) and it
was no problem. My 89'911 is harder to enter and exit than the 356.
Before you invest,do whatever you have to do to try one with the top
up,as everyones flexability is different and what is not a problem
for one 6 footer is a problem for another.

That was the kind of comment I expected from Ron O. I guess he's getting slow.

Adian, you can fit one person in the rear seat if they sit behind the driver and put their feet behind the passenger seat as it can be moved up without affecting the driving position. It is very tight however and you wouldn't want to sit anyone there for long. I have run my kids to school that way.

Getting in with the top down is easy. With the top up it takes some practice finding out what works. Also, it is definitely harder getting into a Speedster than a Roadster.

The other issue is visibility out the side of the car with the top up, especially with side curtains. You have to pretty well put your head on your knees to see out your driver's side window with the sidecurtains in with a Speedster. Again, a Roadster is better, and with an IM that has actual windows, it is better again.
Getting in and out is a challenge for me even with the top down. I am experimenting with several different styles. I always look around to see if anybody is watching. I don't want to see myself on "Candid Camera" so I use the stealth approach. In my garage I also have to watch to keep the Speedster door from making contact with my other car. Another thing I am working through is my cap or hat keeps wanting to blow off, not from the front but from the back. I've found that if I unbutton the passenger side tonneau that seems to help somewhat. I had a widebrimmed hat with a chin strap but that was even worse because the wide brim would catch the backflow and push the hat down over my eyes, not good! Quite a learning experience but I ain't complaining, went out this morning on some of our backroads and waved at the beef critters, came back with my spirts all aglow. Bruce
Bruce,
Had the same hat problem in my 33 Ford cabriolet with the top down.
I battled it for a long time and many lost hats.
I shaved my head and put velcro strips on my head and in my hat and
cured the problem. When I'm not in the car I carry a skate board
around with me an no one thinks anything of the stripes on my head!
