Obviously two diferent knobs. One being VW Beetle, the other, much more expensive repro based on the 356 dash knobs.
The VW light and wiper switches will accept the ivory Beetle knob regardless of the year car that they were meant for, so . . . if you can't find or afford the early switches, go for the later ones. The ivory knobs even fit the aftermarket pull switches sold at Auto Zone and Pep Boys, and make them look great .
The Porsche 356 knobs come in many sizes and only one of those will fit the Beetle switch. The 356 light and wiper switches had a wider shaft than the Beetle and those knobs only fit Porsche.
I went through ALL OF THIS when I "restored" the dash in my '55 356. In the end I went with the newer 356 C switches and the ivory Pre-A knobs. Although, honestly, the bell-shape ring topped Beetle knob is MUCH more elegant than any of the genuine 356 knobs EVER were. They just look SO charming on the Speedster dash!
Luck,
TC

I also agree with TC . 1966 Bug knobs are nicer.
I went one step further, 1955 Ford switchs can be adapted easly to 1966 bug knobs and you can add the pretty labled Ford bezels that fit the same year truck.

Mike, thanks for the heads up on where to get my switches. Lots of other good stuff there.

I know those switch bezels, what a cool idea ! ! ! ! Period perfect and just unidentifiable enough to look like they may have been "stock" 356 on some factory coach-built or another.
Great touch ! ! !

Robert take a look at the Mid America VW catalog, they have a great assortment. It's funny, stick the word Porsche on anything and you can charge double and triple for it.
