My headlight buckets are looking pretty worn, the springs are damaged, the small metal clips for adjusting the lights are bent, and so on. I can't adjust the angle of the lights anymore so one points up too high and shines right into oncoming traffic.

I have looked but can't find the hardware to replace the springs and clips. I've only been able to find the whole bucket assembly. Is replacing the bucket the only/easiest way to fix this problem?

Looking at early and late bucket assemblies it seems the early assembly is what I need for our applications, correct?

The adjusters on the lights that came in my VS have never worked properly. It turns out that simply mounting them in the car squeezes the whole assembly too much to allow any motion. The screws turn, but they can't exert enough force to move the lamps.

I got around this by looking at the beam projected on a wall, taking the light out of the car, rotating it a little in the desired direction, and remounting. This didn't take as long as I thought it might, and I got it right in 2-3 tries.

Once done, you don't need to adjust the lights very often, so I've just left it and not tried to find buckets that work the way they should.

This isn't a great answer, but it might be easier (and cheaper) than trying to find units that are built well enough to work as intended.

1/2 " drill bit sideways against the fiberglass H/L bucket to clearance for the screw & bracket to turn

I think Alan's probably right. The main problem may be the the lack of clearance in the car's fiberglass rather than the headlight parts themselves. Another thing to check before ordering new parts.

I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll take the buckets out and give it a look and see if it’s a clearance issue.
