Down to the end of the process on this but having difficulty with the gasket between the bucket and the body.

Should I silicone the gasket to the bucket to keep it from slipping around or is there some other secret to this? If I attach it to the bucket, what adhesive, silicone, hair spray etc would I use? (just kidding about the hair spray)

Thanks.

Bob

There may be too much space between the chrome trim and the body when the bucket is snugged up against it, thereby letting the O-ring gasket slip behind the chrome.  See if you can get the bucket to fit closer to the body - that may fix it.

The cross-section of the gasket is usually an "L" or a "T" and it should nestle up against the chrome with the bigger flat up against the body.  I start at the top and pull it gently around the sides as I'm pressing the bucket in towards the body to hold everything in place, then tighten the bottom screw.

Might be - I've used them for years but I can't honestly remember if they were VW or 356 parts.  Either one should fit.  As I mentioned earlier, some of them, in a cross-section, look like an "L", while the others look like a capital "T".  I like the "T" versions a bit better as they seem to fit better and stay put.

Either way, they're not especially expensive.
