I have a cracked lens and have ordered this:
The Samba has an extensive writeup on headlight bucket assembly but is it really necessary to disassemble the bucket just to replace the front lens?
Any tips are welcome. Thanks!

I cracked mine last year. I opted for the Bosch Asymmetrical fluted lens as a replacement:

My buckets were removed. Not that difficult a job (I'm a self-proclaimed idiot). The only thing was those pesky clips. The location the clip was initially attached to interfered with something in the assembly, so it needed to be slightly moved. In total, maybe 30-45 min to install both sides.
To add, I know the Bosch lenses are pricey, but they are much heavier and thicker? than the lenses that came with my VS. I worried that with the thinner glass, this would be a reoccurring instance.
There are so many different glasses used. Offer your old VS one up to someone that needs a matching replacement. I've seen clean, fluted and 911 style. Plus different markings on the, too - HELLA, BOSCH.
@WOLFGANG, Great idea. I will offer up my original clear VS headlight lens (the non-cracked lens) free to anyone, if they pay shipping. I'm located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
