Headlight retaining clip and License plate bracket

Does anybody have a picture or even a drawing ofthe headlight top retaining clip on a CMC body? I don't have them with my kit and am going to make some up, just wondering what the originals look like. Ditto for the plate bracket.

I don't have a picture, but I can give you a quick description. It is about two inches long. It is arched to fit inside of the upper headlight hole. It is about 1/2-3/4" deep. It has two holes for the rivets or screws that go into the headlight bucket. The lip that the headlight sits on is about 1/4" tall, and obviously follows the same arch. It was made of pretty lightweight aluminum, probably only 1/16 thick or so. You may be able to get some lightweight 3/4" aluminum angle stock, and then make the curve and trim the lip.

Shouldnt be to hard to make.
I think the Vintage speedsters just use a right angle sheetmetal bracket that isn't curved.

OK. So I looked in my garage and found that I have a spare bracket from my CMC build.

If someone would like to send me their address, I would be more than happy to send this to them.

You could then presumably use it as a guide for making any others you might need.

Along same spare part lines - I have a extra piece for the CMC convertible top bows. It's called a "support bracket" on page VII-15 Figure 13. Just want a few $ to cover padded envelop and postage. NOTE - only have the one but good model for making another.

Just noticed you also asked about the plate bracket. It is like almost any bracket you can get at the parts store. About 8" long, with two elongated holes at the ends (running horizontally), and then two holes in the center to mount to the body.

Please be aware that those top bow tension levers are "left and right" - they're mirror images of each other, but they're pretty simple and can be duplicated easily with a piece of 1/8" flat steel stock.

Fred, I have a plate bracket in the garage just laying around. It appears to be the same one that is used on the VW, pretty universal. I will see if my wife can locate it and get it to you.

Good point. I have two flared body kits. One will hopefully be done soon and the other one I will work on when I get back from Iraq. I only have 1 of the 4 bow tension levers that I will need. I will probably end up fabricating the other 2. Hopefully I will end up with a set with the 1 that Gregory sends down my way.
