Yup, that's it. Put the bottom of the "T" between the trim ring and the body and the top of the "T" spans the gap. Pull the bottom of the trim ring away from the body about 1/2" and start pulling the gasket on from the top to the bottom as you gradually push the bottom of the trim ring back in place. NOTE: If your trim ring is spaced out away from the body too much the rubber gasket will just slip inside when you try to fit it. You may have to move the "L" shaped piece of metal holding the top of the trim ring back a bit to tighten the gap between ring and body to make this work, but it can be done and it will stay in place w/o further messing.

I've never seen any ridge or anything on a VW fender to hold the headlight gasket on - but then, I've never actually LOOKED for one, either!

Speaking of gaskets, though, does anyone else besides me run a rubber gasket behind their horn grills??
Greg, don't you hate it when parts go bad before you even finish the car!

I think the stuff I used on the rear grill came from Stoddard. It is about 1/4" wide and dumbbell shaped. It is a straight piece that gets bent around the perimeter of the grill with one side of the dumbbell exposed. It does a good job of closing the uneven gap between the CMC grill and the deck opening.
