Not sure if this has been asked but I'll throw it out there.

I have a set of real 356 coupe/ roadster seats I want to restore to go in a Beck speedster. (I think Carey and Kevin can do this.) But was wondering if any of you ever put those electric heater panels in your seats. Did they work good enough? Any distortion or discolorment to the seat material. (Vinyl, leather etc...) Any thoughts would be appreciated. The weather is just starting to turn and I've been antsy since October when I last looked at a wrench. Started stripping the seats apart today!

Carey installed them for me last winter.  They work really well. I have black leather seats & no signs of any discoloration.

I originally got these because I didn't know how well my heat mod would work (routing directly to the rear bulkheads).  That worked so well I can't figure out when anyone would get an Espar.

I still use the seats for additional heat.  They have a high & low setting,  I drove about 4 hours home to Michigan yesterday evening on low.  The temperature was in the upper 30's.

Where I really enjoy them is when it's a little cool with the top down.  It's kind of like sitting in a hot tub on a cool night.

I'm glad I got them.

Tom, you get an Espar/Eberspacher when you have ceramic-coated mid-engine 1 5/8" headers with a 4-2 muffler-1 exit system!

I don't have the seat heaters but, seriously, if they are hot enough to discolor the upholstery they will BURN you! A bunch of Spyder guys have the carbon/electric seat heaters and absolutely love them.

They are great for low back pain also!  At least in my regular cars.

Jeff,

I'm thankful for my heated seats every time I drive my Speedster.  Sounds like a similar setup to Tom's: high and low settings, switches hidden under the dashboard.  No joke, if buying again, I wouldn't even consider skipping this option.  If buying used, it would be my first mod.  No discoloration or other evidence in the leather, but they do get HOT!  My wife loves 'em as well.  Because of the heaters (and keeping out of the rain), I've never had to put the top up since I took delivery last Spring.  Not once.  Good luck with the seat restoration.  Do put in the heaters -- you won't be sorry.
