Is there a good way to keep the heater vent doors by my feet from sliding opened and closed so easily?
Maybe wedge a match into the crack, something that could be easily remeoved when needed.
Gently tap on the heater slide housing to reduce the gap between it and the slide "door" until it has some resistance
When all else fails -- duct tape. There is a letter to the editor in this month's 356 Registry magazine called "The world is held together with duct tape and hose clamps". Check it out.
I'd have to add coat hangers to that list. Don't leave home without 'em!

I did two things. I slightly pressed down the channels that the doors track in. This increased the friction to keep them from opening when I turned a corner or went over a bump. Second, there are screws holding the back plate of the heater doors to the body of the car. Gradually back one of these out until a little friction prevents the door from sliding (if the screws are very short, or set on an angle this may not work). Mine now take a nice 'tug' to open and they stay where I put them!
