Heavy Duty Car Hauler
Since we are no longer “Snow Birds” and no longer have to haul my Speedster back and forth to South Carolina I am putting up her trailer for sale. Besides, it cost nothing to keep it in SC, but I have to register/insure it separately up here for $450 per year so out it goes.
It is a Steel, tandem wheel, 7,500 lb. GVW open deck car hauler, built by my son, Chris in 2003. First used to haul Chris’ Eclipse drag car to races, and then by me to haul my Speedster since 2004. I estimate that it has somewhere close to 20,000 all highway miles on it, 16K of which is my running back and forth to South Carolina. This trailer has never seen snow and was parked inside when up North until this year (lost my storage space). It is in excellent condition and is semi-gloss black.
It comes with a utility box up front to hold tongue locks, jack crank, tie-down straps, chock blocks, emergency supplies and the wiring harness for the winch. The winch is rated for 1,600 lbs. dead weight, or about 4,800 lbs rolling weight and can easily load a Land Rover Discovery (like my daughter’s old POS) single-handed by the operator. The tie-down system uses straps that wrap around the torsion tubes in front and around the transmission horns in back to hold the car rock-steady once loaded. The fenders were mounted such that you can open the doors of a Speedster, once loaded, and get out and are full panel fenders, not steel mesh on the inside near the car so nothing can blow onto the car from the wheels.
When properly loaded (driven on, not backed on), this trailer tracks as straight as a die to well above normal speed limits. It comes equipped with electric brakes, and my two Jack Russells can attest that, when loaded, it can go from 70mph to zero in under 100 yards with no adverse effects other than the Jacks plastered up against the seat backs of the truck.
It comes with a pair of ramps which tuck under the side decks for storage and are chain-locked to the bed for safety. It is equipped with proper, DOT approved lighting all around. Tires were new when it was built in 2003.
Asking $1,600 New ones just like this are selling for around $3,000. Can deliver for the cost of fuel within 4 hours of zip 01519.
This trailer should be towed by a half-ton pickup or better (no sub-compacts need apply). If you need a tow vehicle, keep reading below for my F250 Pickup

Totally rust free Southern truck – only seen one winter since new.
We bought this truck specifically to haul my Speedster (and other gear) seasonally back and forth to our home in South Carolina. The car and trailer are pretty light so you never feel them back there – I usually haul in cruise control and it varies +- 2mph, even in the mountains of Virginia. Loaded towing MPG is about 16.5 mpg, unloaded (in cruise) is about 19mpg. Oil changes at 4K intervals including both fuel filters, all other maint. done by me. Serpentine belt, transmission fluid and air filter changed at 75K miles (I have another case of transmission fluid that goes with it).
Kelly Blue Book for this truck and options at 138,000 miles is about $19K. It is in very good shape, has Southern Truck zero rust and never been plowed so I’m asking $20K
Package deal on truck and trailer of $21,000 and I’ll deliver within 4 hours of zip 01519.
