I'm ready to replace the 'beep, beep' horns on the Speedster. What would you all recommend with Hella horns, the Supertone or the Hi-low horns?

Never had either one of them so I have no clue on what they sound like, the 'beep, beep ones I have now have to go, one way or another. I am not going to spend a lot of $$$ on horns on this car for genuine Porsche type horns...

G.R. - FWIW, I kept the standard 'beep-beep' horn as my 'Hi, how are ya' horn for acknowledging the thumbs-up from passers-by and pedestrians admiring the car.

I also added a shrill high-decibel "WATCH WHERE YOU"RE GOING" air horn that can easily be heard over blue-tooth earpiece and stereo sounds of the unobservant driver. I attached the activating button within easy reach on the dash. $35 at Pep Boys!

G.R.,

I just did a HELLA Super Tone install on my VS built Speedster and posted a complete step by step on what I did.  I really like the sound of the Super tones because they have a very European sound to them.  You can hear the high and low note at the same time.  The Twin Tones have two horns and they are both the same sound which is more like what we are used to in the States. The cost of the Super Tones was about $65.00 from Pep Boys and the kit included the necessary Bosch relay.  I'm sure they might be found cheaper on the internet but I tend to shop local whenever I can.

I've posted my how-to and some sound clips from the Super Tones and the Twin Tones.

Ray - Used a button that looks like an ignition push-button starter. Located just under dash under my light switch (which is on left of steering wheel).

I will be switching the 'loud' horn to be activated by the steering horn button (for quicker access) and the 'beep-beep' hi-how-are-ya to the push button underneath the dash. Will use the steering horn button wiring to activate the relay in line for the 'loud' horn.

I have air horns similar to Ted, but with three trumpets, mounted up at the top of the front, left wheel well.

Can't remember where I got them (JC Whitney? Santa?) but they were in the same price ballpark, 15 years ago.  I removed the original Beep-Beep horns entirely and have the air horns wired to the normal horn button.  A short blip is loud (it takes one-half second to wind up), but not objectionable, whereas a lean-on-it blast simply says "Get Outa My Way, Man!" and that's just fine with me.

A teeny-tiny car deserves a really big horn........
