Hi,

I have very recently taken possession of a lovely Beck Speedster and I just wanted to say hello to everyone and share a few early photos.

Ive managed to locate a nearby VW specialist so will soon take in for a health check and maybe look into some engine upgrades as I think its the entry level 1600.

Only interesting thing ive noticed so car is that the car has a Beck built plate, but the steering wheel and floor mat logos show the Chamonix brand.  Wonder if that means it was sold as a rolling shell for the customer to finish....  Is there a way to look up the serial number and see when it left the factory?

Anyway loving it so far, driving the twisty roads of the Clyde Valley and the New Lanark world heritage site.  Carbs are popping away like mad so badly needs a tune up, but still fun πŸ˜€πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜†πŸ˜Š

Kind Regards,

Welcome to this madness Ross ! Hope you enjoy your ride as much as we do !

My Wife and I have read the books and watched the series "Outlanders" We are thinking of a trip to Scotland in the next two months. Of course we want to go to Edinburgh, Inverness, and Craig Na Dun. Probably the battle ground of1745 that the name escapes me right now but looks like Coloden. What would the weather be like ?.....Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Weather here comes in 2 week phases, 2 weeks dry and mild, 2 weeks windy and wet.  Its because were are heated by narrow band of hot air from europe that keeps us warmer than most other countries this far north, but often that jet stream wanders off course and misses us and we get a couple of weeks bad weather.  SO you never really know, best to have a variety of thin layers, dont bother with any big heavy coats.  T-shirt, thin pullover, thicker pullover, thin wateproof jacket that you can roll up and put in your bag.

There actually is a really good facebook group called the Scottish Travel Society, where lots of info is available.  There are even several 'Outlander' tours.

If you need any other advice let me know.

Cheers,

R

We have been to Scotland twice.  Our middle son did a semester at Strathclyde U. in Glasgow back in the 1990s, and we visited and toured around.  A couple of years ago we did a train tour in October.  We figured the tourists would be fewer then, and the weather - although it was wet and windy up on the Orkneys - was pretty good.  We don't mind coolish weather, and the scenery and people (except for one miserable old coot we met) were great.

Looking forward to getting back there soon.

Congratulations on your speedster.
