Something is "off" with my engine and I am having a really tough time locking it down. I would say that it's a rough idle, but it doesn't stumble or misfire or anything like that. It just sounds wrong.

I've checked all the wires and connections, the only thing visually wrong was the coil was loose in its bracket; it was rubbing against the carb linkage and it has a notch worn into the housing. I don't know enough about coils to know if this could affect its function.

I bought a timing light, and it turns out there are no numbers engraved in the pulley--just a red dot. Adjusting the timing by feel does not seem to improve the problem.

What I really should do is find someone local who can take a look, I am at a loss.
