I just bought a 1958 speedster this past weekend at Monterrey. It's my first 356. What is the screw on the floor board by the stick shift?
I love the car but it's all foreign to me.

That's it! Heater controlknob. Thx!
Another question is where is the battery located at?
Golfnut, welcome to the site.
How about a name? First name?
Your photos didn't come through.
Do you know who the manufacturer of your replica is?
A few manufacturers put the battery in the front of the car where the spare tire would be located.
This is all original! I did see it under the spare tire. I will try to attach pics next. My name is Rene from Dallas.
Hi Rene,
So you have the real deal! Congratulations!
It's a beauty.
You might not realize this but this site is predominately dedicated to fiberglass replica 356 speedsters, convertible D, A coupes and 550 spyders.
Hopefully, you'll want to stick around. We're a pretty good group of guys and gals.
You'll probably want to join the 356 Registry: http://www.356registry.org
They have a forum as well and will probably be a little more helpful.
I didn't realize that but I'm sure we can share some good stories. This is my first 356 and they are fun to drive and hopefully will hold their value.
Rene, you're driving an investment! I have quite a few friends with early Porsches and they continue to appreciate rapidly. Keep it original, take very good care of it and insure it heavily.
You're driving a gold mine.
I totally agree with you. It is a show car. I plan on showing it only at Porsche events. This baby is all original and only had two owners and the restoration was just recently completed. It came with a COA and original tools.
She's a beaut!
Love the color. Gorgeous car. As Terry (tpnuckels) said, hope you keep us informed as to your adventures with your new classic Porsche. I've not found a better group on the internet. The SOC'ers will bend over backwards to help you out. Much of the information on here you'll find useful and transfers to a genuine Speedster. Also, several on here have had, do have, classic Porsches as well.
I'm located in Austin. If you end up taking her out to the hill country, or to any events near central Texas, let me know. There is a big Porsche event in a few weeks you may want to check out. http://www.boxstoberfest.com/
Here is a helpful link to get you going with the basics...
http://www.cyberwerkstatt.com/...rs/A-Drivers_p27.htm
Click the "next page" link and that'll walk you through the basics of the controls, etc.
You may consider buying a hard copy manual: http://www.northforkdesigns.net/Porsche356/manuals/
Enjoy your new classic, and I hope you "drive 'em not hide 'em"!

That is awsome! Please post a picture of your exhaust tips. I tried to replicate a '58 & understand that it was the last year for Speedsters and the only year where the exhaust was routed through the bumper risers...the way Carey did mine.
Beautiful car enjoy, I remember this one coming across the block last weekend on TV.
Thanks! I sure group all the info. It's helpful with my first 356.
Tom, i hope this helps.

FUNNY STORY ON THE HEATER.
AS A KID MY DAD HAD A 57 BUG. WE HAD NO HEATER IN THE CAR HE THOUGHT UNTIL HE BOUGHT A NEW 63 AND WE FOUND OUT THE FLOOR KNOB WAS THE HEATER.
Beautiful car, Rene, keep us posted on your education process. We'll try not to drool too much on your fenders.
That's the ticket! Thanks!
Rene, you're living the dream.
That has to be the nicest engine compartment I've seen on any 356 (real or unreal).
Hmm... Unreal.
I think I like that better than replica.
Buy a fiberglass replica painted same color combo. Store the original for shows and drive the heck out of the replica. You'll find the replica stops and goes better than the original.
TheSamba.Com has a decent Porsche - 356 Forum too.
That is something to consider.
Golfnut - that's COOL at every level. Happy Trails!
Congrats on your beautiful new ride! Please post some more photos.
HEY CURIOUS HOW MUCH?????
Thanks for the photos!
HET STEVEN WHEN DO U GET YOUR CAR?
In October, Gerd.
Golfnut, when do you take possession of that beauty?
Looking forward to seeing some fresh photos and a driving review.
I saw what the final bid was...I agree that you pick up a replica copy for driving around and put that beauty under lock & key until concourse day.
Terry, she got delivered Friday. Drove her around the block and stored it in the warehouse. The drive was nice decent power and tons of high fives from friends and neighbors. I bought the 356 with an understanding that I will drive it only to show at some car events or to loan for some Charity events. But since driving her I really
enjoyed it. I may buy a replica or another well sorted 356.
Nutster... I have a plastic tub, which I love, It's a super wide body & I try to get it out as much as possible....Besides the tub I have always had some sort of collectable car also...
Problem is, if you don't drive a car it will most surely deteriorate before your eyes....Even if you
don't plan on driving your tub, you will need to stretch it out periodically, just starting it & letting
it run for a while will hurt it more than help, so drive it at least monthly, get the motor up to temp..
Just my opinion.....
If you purchased a real speedster, you can surely afford a replica, to knock around town in...
Vinny, good advice. I definitely will take it out for a run every now and then. I have been surfing on eBay searching for a replica. If I get one I will let you all know.
Would silver with black interior work for you? There are a lot of ins and outs about buying a replica, so don't just jump on the first one you see. You are in the best place to learn about them.
I just started the process to search for a replica or a well sorted coupe. I really don't know what to look for in regards to the replicas. But I'm sure I will be asking the group a bunch of help.
Hang in there "Nutster" (Thank Vinny for the name change), you'll get plenty of good advice here. Somehow I see a really nice IM (Intermeccanica) in your future. Henry will be able to clone one for you and no one will be able to tell which car you're driving on a given day.
