Well, Golfnut, you did mention something about a coupe. There are now 356A Coupe replicas (check out JPS Motorsport or SAS). You could get a coupe done up as a body double.. then you'd have a ride no mater what the weather. Oh, and since you are in Dallas.. think, replica coupe with air conditioning.
Hummm... or maybe you couple have a radical outlaw version of your Speedster done. That'd also throw people for a loop.
The choices are endless with such unlimited means...

Intermeccanica builds a very fine replica.
It's considered bad form to ask for a public debate over any particular builder (many of us are very passionate about our builder choices), but you can certainly ask if there is an Intermeccanica owner that would share their experience via phone or email.

That said, all the builders put out a good product, cost/options, speedster vs roadster vs coupe,
are all considerations. (Some have roll-up windows as an example others don't.)
go to the makers tab at the top and a simple phone call to each of them should help you decide
who and what you want....try not to be influenced by any of us who may have an agenda for whatever reason....

Wow. Back for sale again? I really wanted this last time it went up for sale.. but the price went higher then I was willing to pay for, thus I called JPS and put in my order.
I talked with the seller on the phone and via email. Nice guy, and willing to help out with shipping, etc. If anyone is looking for a used coupe, you should look into this car.

Well, I meant he would take the car to the port for you.. that sort of help.
I did price out shipping from Alaska to Texas. I found a shipper I liked that was willing to do it for $1700. As I recall, it was to go by boat from Alaska to Seattle, then trucked from there. Sooooo.. I bet you can find a better rate then $1200 from Alaska to Seattle. The seller told me to get pricing from a company in the lower 48, because the Alaska companies are used to moving cars for people on expense accounts (oil company employees).
Even better... drive! Would make for quite an adventure! 
I've been thinking about this adventure and the weather will be changing soon, I'm sure.

You're right, Rich. I think temperatures are starting to dip into the 30s not too far inland in that neck of the woods.
One other thing to consider is that, while the drive would sport awesome scenery, the Al-Can highway is probably not the most friendly to paint and windshields. A lot of places use pea gravel in the winter and that stuff sticks around on the roadway.
Another option might be the Alaska Marine Highway - it goes to Bellingham, Washington. http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/
Rich, what's your opinion on IM. i found a roadster that i might buy but im not familiar with IM. if i like IM i may have them build me a clone to my speedster.

You wouldn't be the first to own an original and a replica. I met an owner years ago in San Mateo (I think). I saw his car from about 50 feet away and noticed some cool details, like exhaust through the bumper uprights. Upon closer inspection I realized it was an original. He said he also had an old CMC replica which was pretty close to the same car. He drove the replica much more often, but brought out the original for events.
Then there was a member of this site who had both back about 2003 or so.
And finally, a friend of mine was a tow truck driver and towed a car back to a ranch outside Gilroy. He said the owner had a beautiful garage which housed an original 550 and a replica of the same car.
I'm sure it's more common than we think to own both, especially considering the costs originals are reaching and that many want to protect their investment.

Why not check the Intermeccanica website?. Henry and his guys could build you an IM that would be a perfect match to an original.
It will cost you, though, but you'll end up with a great looking and driving Speedster.
I'm not saying that the other makers could not do this, but having owned three Intermeccanicas, I tend to favour them.
I personally know that Vince would love to own one.
