Please help . . .

I have a stock 356 Petri two spoke wheel with the 1/3 horn ring in my car and don't know how to get it off. The Porsche crest /wheel is in perfect shape so I'd rather not just blunder into it in my usual manner.

Does anyone know the correct proceedure for removing these wheels? I also have a two spoke with a ful horn ring bolted to the end of a steering column, is the proceedure the same for both?

They are so nice looking that I'd rather not ruin them if I can help it.

HELP!

Thanks, TC

There should be a couple of small holes on the dash side of the steering wheel. You can use a DULL punch to GENTLY push the horn button out. If the original installer put the wheel on correctly, the holes in the steering wheel and the cup that holds the horn ring on will line up and you can push the horn button out. If not, you will have to use your imagination. Good luck.
Thanks,

I tried that on the "other" steering wheel that came with the car. A two spoke Petri with a full horn ring. I'm looking at a diagonal crack through the left top quarter of a formerly perfect 3 in. Porsche crest .

Oh, not anyone's fault buy my own, I did this AFTER I found those stupid little holes, and BEFORE I posted here . . .

How do you fit a punch into the holes with the steering wheel on the car? There isn't much room between the back of the wheel mounting boss and the dash/gauges. What about the thin metal trim ring between the crest and the wheel . Could I push on the ring with a long punch rather than the fragile plastic crest?

HELP? MORE HELP? EVERYONE HELP! ANYONE HELP!!

However, IF the crest comes off, is everything else right there in front of you and ready to rock and roll.
OUCH! I used a small dull phillips screwdriver and did not have to apply a lot of pressure. A little on one side, then a little on the other side, then a little more on the first side.....How about a little teflon spray or one of the fine CRC products that make living easier? Once you get the button off, everything else should be right there for you. Be careful not to break the phenol/insulation washers when removing/reinstalling the horn ring cup. You might also want to replace the rubber gasket/insulation abound the cup, available from NLA in Reno. Again, good luck.
Are you having trouble removing the horn button or the steering wheel? If you have a wheel like the one shown below, it's very easy. I just use a "L-shaped" flat head screwdriver. Slide one end under the chrome bezel, and give it a little tug. The horn button should pop right out.
Dale and Glenn,

thanks for the information. The exacto blade thing was a little scary. I noticed the holes on the back side and that was my first thought, so now I know.

My second thought was to do what Glenn suggested. I am a little scared that the chorme or stainless ring on the button will bend.
