Cory, I'd like to give you some garage advice, but after looking at mine, I think I'll pass....sorry dude...
Cory, when you get your garage squared away I'm asking you to come up to Joppa and get mine done. Serious booze and vittles for you afterward. Bring Teresa too.
Vince;
Really like those throw rugs under the Speedster..........

Gordon, that's EXACTLY what I want!
Do I need to come up there and give you a dollar for it?
Vince, that's funny! I kinda like what you've done there.

Maybe you can get some ideas from this man cave.
http://thecavehome.wordpress.com/2011/04/01/cave-home-located-near-monticello-utah/ $597,500 in 2010...maybe less now!

Cory,
Small beer fridge, a ceiling fan or two, air conditioner/heater, welding power, plenty of outlets, plenty of workbench space, Sam's sells some great stainless cabinets... We can take a look at my new garage when you come up Saturday, might give you some ideas. The forum on this site was a big help when I was designing/building mine: http://www.garagejournal.com/

Excellent!
Teresa and I were discussing wiring yesterday. I think I'm going to use conduit outside the walls, so I can change things around painlessly if need be.

That's right......I forgot!
Mrs. Hoopty is an electrician!!
Hello, Mrs. Sparks!
As an electrical aside, the main breaker in my Mom's house died last week and when the electrician came to fix it he found that (a.) the meter was inside the cellar right next to the CB box and (b.) it had a big power company lock on it, forcing him to change the main house breaker while things were "hot". Glad it wasn't me.
I second the ceiling fans. I have a floor fan in Beaufort - it's great - but nothing in Mass. and I miss them about every time I go out there. Especially THIS summer!

I have one of those rolley-around room air conditioners -- the kind with the elephant trunk attached -- that will handle air conditioning needs quite nicely. I inherited it when Teresa's brother got his apartment in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Sparks has gone from uninterested in the garage to willing planning assistant. I think that's great news, although I'm certain the garage will wait until the rest of the house is in tippy-top shape before it gets started.
Which gives me time to find things I really want, like Beverly shears, a tubing bender, a decent vise, a whizzer and a grinder. Top dollar will be paid for that Massachussetts anvil ...
When it's done, it'll be so much better than what I have now.

Cory, I like the idea of old kitchen cabinets and a countertop. The cabinets should have the door centers punched out and replaced with glass or plexi, so you know what's in there. Of course the counter should be something sturdy, like 1" ply with stainless steel sheet glued to it. And a BIG vise. I like hanging stuff up. Plan for heat of some sort too, as well as your roll-around A/C unit. Lots of light, lots of outlets.
As far as air compressors, don't get an oil-less one. Get a nice, big, two-cylinder cast-iron one. And if you can, mount it NOT in the garage. You can run pipe out to the garage with a few quick-release air fittings for hose. Or maybe build a large closet around it with sound insulation. I have an old 2-channel receiver, a CD player, i-pod cord, and Polk speakers for tunes. I also have a coax out there for when I decide to put a TV. All stuff that is cheap and easy to wire for, buy all the expensive end stuff later.

Don't forget the beer fridge!
That shine (glare) on the Hoopty...where'd that come from?

The shine ... Uh, I have no idea what you're talking about. :)

An electric kitchen range - like for an apartment.
Get a used one at a Habitat for Humanity "Re-Store" or Goodwill, etc. Usually $25-$50 for a decent one, just make sure the oven works.
WICKED handy for curing powder coated parts and you won't have to keep the secret from Teresa that you were curing parts in your kitchen oven when she wasn't home.
