Marc, on my CMC the button is attached to a threaded rod that is fastened to the door latch actuator lever inside of the door.  We can’t see the backside of the button in the photos so I don’t know what’cha got there.

Does your button still have the threaded rod attached?  If so, then the inside door panel must be removed and then dig around in the bottom of the door for the missing nut and washer Lying down there somewhere.  If possible, I would use a nylon insert “StopNut” instead of the nut used, as the stopnut won’t back off.

If there is no rod on the backside of the button, then that may be a whole ‘nuther issue but you’ll have to remove the inside door panel no matter what to fix this.

If the threaded rod has separated from the button, then remove the rod from the actuator lever and re-attach it to the button with some JB weld or Epoxy or see if it can be attached mechanically,  either threaded or crimped.

Marc It should be an easy fix, try to align the rod back into the push knob turning it clockwise with some luck it may go back onto the rod w/o the rod spinning if so then remove it again, dab some caulk into the push knob hole and rethread it back on the rod and let it dry.  However, if the rod just spins you'll have to remove the interior handle push in pin and door panel screws to get at the rod and be able to hold it while you turn the knob onto the handle , again you'll either needs to dab some caulk to secure it in push knob or, use a Nyloc nut as Gordon has suggested.
