I've never tried the tape, but I can tell you that drilling those holes is a nightmare due to the curved surface. The pin holes need to be drilled at an angle to accommodate the fact that the pins are at an angle when the badge is curved to match the surface.  Even if someone comes up with a template, I can almost guarantee you will have problems.

3rd endorsement for no pins and tape. Remember that the body is 1/2" (+/-) thick. The pins don't clear the body without modifications. The tape (3m trim tape) works very well.

Cut the pins with a dremel. Apply tape. Trim around with super sharp blades. Bend the emblem to match the contour of the nose. Take your time and get it bent 100% perfect. Then peel off the backing and position and apply. If you don't get the contour of the emblem to nose correct the edges want to lift.

Here is what I did, after several attempts that did not work.  I got some epoxy, and put it in the holes, and a goodly squish on the underside, then rigged up a wooden brace or two against the garage wall to press the emblem against the body properly while the epoxy set up.  helps to pre-bend the trim as close as possible to body contour. That worked for me.  The double sticky tape might work for a while, even if you have a perfect trim job, but it is going to degrade in the weather sooner or later.
