Hi all:

I'm in the process of importing a Mufacar kit from Brasil. The kit is designed to fit a "brasilia" (Brasil designed vw on a 104 chassis -the same used in early karmanns, some cms wider than beetle).

Recently bought a blue brasilia and some things for the speedster: tail lights, front lights, dash instruments, etc.

The problem: this car doesn't have subframe. Uses as building manual the 1984 CMC instructions.

Please help in preparing the subframe, need advise on tube sizes and guage, where to joint to the body, size and type of rivets, where and how to reinforce the fibeglass, well, any help is wellcome.

Thanks.

Javier, you might have another option. The ENVEMO Super 90 was also built on a Brasilia chassis, but Carey Hines at Special Editions later made a tube frame which could replace the Brasilia chassis in that car. If you are interested, you could check with Carey and see if he has or could build you a tube frame for your project.
Javier, I understand your situation. I live in Belize and imported a Diablo bodyshell a few years ago for exactly the same reasons, as the duty rates here are almost the same as yours. I now have a Speedster body which I will import soon the same way. I don't have measurements of the subframe but it shouldnt be that difficult to construct. The thickest metal box section metal (square metal or tubular metal, whatever you call it) will be needed at the sills, horizontally (under where the doors go, to stop the body bending and to allow the doors to close without rubbing the body). Also the door pillars vertically as these will take the weight of the doors. I would use 2mm thick in these sections, and probably 1mm on the rest. But this is based on my experience of a VW bug pan, I dont know how the 104 varies. If the 104 dosent have the centre section where the front and rear suspension mount to then it will need more work and strength. If it were me I would fly to the USA and visit the company and take all the measurements, although I know this may not be practical for you. I hope someone can assist. Best of luck, Otto
Wondelrul offering !!!! Thanks Cory.
There are various measures we (other kit builders and me) need. The first is the grossor or gauge and type of metal square tube needed. As english is not my first language, at night I will edit the drawing in order to identify the parts.

Thanks again

Hi All:

NEWS!! NEWS!!! FINALLY NEWS!!!!

After months of mails and phone calls to Brasil, it was not possible to buy the kit (Mr. Mufa answers to every thing with -no hay problema- (no problem) and after four months he did nothing!!!
I turned to a new fiberglass kit maker in MEXICO, Mr. Luis Urrutia Gutierrez (just U$ 1600 for the kit, U$ 380 for the metal subframe) almost U$1000 less than the brazilian provider.

Today the DHL people picked up the body etc. and will be shipping on cotober the 24th.

Mr. Urrutie Emaililed me some photos.... here I show one... I'm really exited!!

I am in the same boat here in Thailand, and my approach is to cut the Beetle pan forward of the VIN number and build a tube frame from that point forward c/w rack and pinion steering, coil over suspension, and A-arms. Since the VIN is still there, this allows retaining the Thai Beetle registration.
One could use the standard pan but mine has cancer, has been hit, and I wanted something special for my own car.

I have cloned a CMC wide body and its integral sub frame, which is welded to the new pan.
Sounds like this is the drawing you needed, and if the Mexican route does not work out give me a PM.
